cog got a reaction from mtaylor in USS Fletcher by RGL - FINISHED - Tamiya - 1/350 - PLASTIC
Greg,
When I look at the pictures from the Fletcher, and I look at your primed hull, I see a difference in the way the hull plating has been lined up in the vertical. On your model it is stepped, on the real life ship the plates sides are a single line from bottom to top, but for a few at the bow ... will you change that or stick to the hull plating layout from the kit

Hello shipyard workers.
Well I have put my L brackets on my shiny white board.
Before anyone asks me my wrist hurts screwing the screws in 😭.
So when you all have stopped laughing 😄 you can tell me I have done it wrong.
That thing in the middle look a bit low don't you think, I purchased the smallest L brackets I could find.
Do you think I should put some blocks under it on each end.
It's a start yippeeeeeeeeeeee.
Jo.

Gunwale almost done with 14 planks in total. Though today the shipyard, as I already mentioned, has closed for two weeks.... the shipyard master will be busy by the visit of his grandson -a three months old petit officer, not of the Cyprus Navy, he is a British subject.
Limassol its now spring over 18° C. and the colours of the sea are beautiful! (picture: Limassol Port, harbor tugboat is piloting Natural Gas Drill platform)

I like the wear and tear of the threshold, it suits the build. However, we should have a word about those orange clamps ...

Evening all I decided today to re - do the bobstay on the bowsprit as the original was not tidy - so I cut away the old a re fitted some fresh ropes and blocks, then I tentioned them correctly - at the same time I fitted a fresh stay from the center of the bowsprit underneath and fitted around the forecastle railng.
Looks a bit more supported now.
Heres the pics -

Thank you all for the nice comments and following
I started with the rear castle. The front part will remain open and the rear part is the cabin for officers, here is also the whippstaff.
Wear due to frequent passage. Some of the crew are too lazy to raise their feet when they go through the door
2 hanging knees with bolts
Work in progress
Thanks for following

You'd better keep your wits about you when you use your mat/mate ... oh which ever ... I'll leave you to your build. Oh, one advice: Measure twice before you cut to length ...

Almost the same in English...

Love these lesser used words... they make our languages rich and interesting.
Back to the ship and she's looking terrific. I built a deans kit 20-something years ago and struggled with the printed styrene... the printing didn't seem to be quite accurate (or it may just have been lack of skill on my part)... You're doing an amazing job though. The view along the superstructure is amazing and looks absolutely true... impressive for a structure that long and thin.
Keep up the good work!
Rob

Keith, Druxey - thanks for the compliments.
Carl - it turned out to be less difficult than I expected. The funnels were pretty smooth at that point and the Frog tape that I used is very good at masking a straight edge. I also aimed the paint spray from the masked areas over the edge of the tape, and not against it. There were only a few spots that had to be touched up. Any curved edges, and all of the pipes and details, were painted freehand without masking.
Thanks for asking.

To those who gave likes, thank you and thanks for stopping by.
Carl, I looked up blue tack so now I know what that is, but what is a lat?
Steve
Foamy progress.
The small railings hanging by a thread painted up okay, but the threads spun from the force of the spray, leaving a few bare spots, and there was a bunch of fiddling to get the thread knot off each railing. I also lost the smallest rail to that great parts heap in the ether. But…
Thanks Lou for the rigid foam board suggestion. Works great and the railing stays in place nicely while spraying.
The railing paint pic showed the intermediate brackets. I need about 200 of them for the bridge and boat decks, in addition to the ones I used on the small top deck cabins. The starting point is the railing stanchion, shown below, which is snipped into three pieces. Then each piece gets another trim to angle the bottom, which makes it easier to install.
The bridge deck port wall railings are fabricated, and now painted.
But enough with the small stuff. It’s time for an overview of progress. It’s cold and windy today, so no outdoor pics, and the shipyard is occupied with railing fab, so the pics are in the best available room. Not much glued yet except some railings. And yes, the Kilroy porthole is still hanging in there hoping to make the final cut.

With regards to druxey's remark, how did you mask those funnels, for those look excellent.

Evening all, firstly sincere thanks to all the likes/followers and comments - so onwards and upwards with the ratlines on the foremast, I decided to fit them by eyeball rather than making a paper mask, seems straight forward enough - just tricky as you need six pairs of hands to tie/ tention and glue the lines around each shroud, getting the spacing is fairly easy to do though - I have been rotating from side to side.
Just a few pics.
