Will thanks for dropping in and such a great comment, I certainly appreciate it. Just taking a break for Christmas and waiting on some micro chisels to arrive. Merry Christmas to you and yours, will be in touch Thanks Pat, I had put off trying to do the carvings long enough that it was finally time to give it a go. Can't wait to try some new flexcut chisels I've ordered for it. Hopefully if I keep it simple I can pull it off Cheers and Merry Xmas to you and yours!

The furniture is looking good and excellent job you did making the grates. -
Mustafa thank you my friend Ok here is my first attempt at carving for the transom decoration. Now don't laugh I've never done carving before and I made up my own design. It cracked after I had It all done but I should be able to do better next time. It is a tad large so I think I will try next one a little smaller. I've ordered some half decent micro chisels from flexcut which I am looking forward to trying also. Cheers ~

Looks good. I did the same thing as you with the photo etched parts. Will have to figure out something to fix them...

Mustafa great to see you back in the shipyard. Looking forward to watching your latest build. Regards, Robin ~ -
Question on mast rings? I don't like the pin stripe tape that the kit supplied to use for mast rings. It is very shiny unlike anything else in the build. While I have searched and read about folks using paper to make them I am curious as to the longevity of paper ones. I did up an experiment seen in the pic below. I used a sharpie permanent marker to color a strip of matt photo paper used in the lower ring test. The second ring above it is from the pin strip tape which I will not be using. Do you think a sharpie marker is good enough to use or should I go with paint? What do you use if making them with paper and how do you color it? I stained the bit of dowel after to see if the sharpie would run from the stain and it appears it has not. Your thought would be appreciated!

Hi Joe, thanks for commenting. Yes it is a fun little kit which turns out a very realistic looking wheel. I bought 2 kits and will probably get four wheels out of them with all the extra parts Thanks for commenting Wally. I had bought a brass wheel from Caldercraft which I was going to use but it was 27mm and just tad to large. I went with Chucks after seeing yours and Thomas's.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
