You must have a good sized stockpile of those things kicking around! Interesting thing though... it keeps poping corn... but not filling up... anyone else alarmed by that? Or am I just nuts? Andy

Whoa.... where do I start?! Augie.. I don't have to do that anymore, I'm Chief Officer... I get others to do that for me Sjors... I'll deal with you later Grant.. I've never counted how many times I've had to tie clove hitches in heaving lines when we pass through the Welland Canal, or the Seaway, but in real life, I'm probably way above that number (That's also not counting the number of routine times a clove hitch has come in handy....) Patrick... Stop encouraging Sjors... you'll only make it worse I have to take the mesh down to the spray booth at the railyway club this afternoon, make it all nice and black. At least, thats the hope. Mark... Shouldn't you be building something? ...all this popcorn eating... can't be good..(Although I bet it's enjoyable) Bummer (Eric if I remember correctly)..I take it you are easily distracted.. only 5 rows since August... hrm... maybe you need to stop by Dr Per's Therapy, get some focus back... (thanks about the lamp nonethe less ) Popeye... I agree with Sarah... there's got to be a bad pun in there somewhere... Sarah.. Sorry to disapoint, but sails are not going to happen on this one. Maybe in the future. After this build, and my next (the Condfederacy), I'm thinking of looking into HM Snow "Ontario" (A Snow is basically a brig with an extra small mast for the driver sail), as a scratch project. Maybe I'll put sails on that one along the lines of Frank's "Supply" And finally John (I didn't forget..) Yeah... rigging-less bulkers... If you want to see a modern day nightmare, have a look at some of our older Self-Unloaders with cable stayed unloading booms. Give me hyraulics any day over ever having to re-reeve one of those ********* And now for Sjors... I know you like your photos, so here are some of the start of my work on the chains. That string hanging down in the second photo is my alignment thread so I can get the angle close enough. I think I still need to make a few adjustments here and there... Andy

I'm not so much worried about the appearance of any ratlines I may tie in the future....more the number of them. And while the Pegasus may not have the most when compared to other models... there's still a s#!+ load of them But thanks for your votes of confidence, nonetheless Andy

Which kit manufacturer is best?
realworkingsailor replied to Shazmira's topic in Wood ship model kits
I agree with Ben. Although I don't have any personal experience with that particular kit, I can attest to the thoroughness of Chuck's practicums. And with the offer code from Model Expo, you can get it for a great price. Andy -
I believe it is what as known as "The rule of 2 square feet" No matter how hard one tries to keep clean and organized, every hobby space will inevitably reduced to an area of 2 square feet. I've tried to be clean... but honestly it just doesn't work. Can't do it. It's only clean when I'm gone away to work. Andy

I've found one thing that helps with the respiratory issues of CA is air flow. I have a ceiling fan that I keep running when I'm doing some major CA work like coppering. There are many different grades of CA, most of the cheaper ones at hobby shops or hardware stores are more volatile and allergy inducing. I've heard (but can't confirm) that the surgical grades of CA are better for people with allergies. Of course you could take Yon's approach and go with a full on respirator and rubber gloves. Andy

So time for a real update at last. I think I'm finished eyebolting the hull... I hope. A few of those little bu**ers may have been missed, but I'm sure I got most of them. Also set up the hammock cranes. I have some mesh material to fill in, I just have to figure out how to put it in.. oh yeah... got to paint it too... And the big news... started the sparring process. Got the lower masts and bowsprit cut to length. I'm planning on first getting the chains done, then moving on to shaping and the rest of the spars and what-not. I hope that will buy me a couple days of peace from you-know-who Andy

What can I say that has not already been said? She's looking real nice... And huge! Everyone who's slobbering over Chris Watton's Victory project should bear that in mind... I imagine she'd be "huge-er" Looking forward to more updates in the future, Andy

I'll just keep in mind that Sjors would like photo-documentation of the minutiae of our lives.... Save having this "miss-understanding" in the future Andy

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
