cabin roof and slide hatch both planked and varnished. For the two crew members I made two mugs from brass tube and a big jug for fresh drinkwater (made from wood dowel)
The porthole flanges are pinned to the cabin walls.
I`m intending to fit an oven with a waterkettel on it, also inside the cabin, as well as a fire exstinguisher and a fire axt for safety reasons
Have meanwhile also received the textile for making the berth pillows, unfotunately there was no old shirt I could sacrafice for that job...

As soon as I find some waste-cloth with checkered blue white decore, the pillow cases will be made, and last not least the small iron oven will be set between ladder and portside berth, perhaps with a kettle on the top...., the oven exhaust will be led over the cabin roof....

Again leave a link to my new site (details section for ship models)
Here are the latest photos of the construction of the Imperial yacht Standart. The model is almost finished. It remains for me to make four boats and restore order with the help of wax mastic. In the construction of this model, I have widely used the manufacture of metal parts by the method of precision vacuum casting of investment wax. This is the very method I use to create parts for very different ship models.

thanks for commenting the oven and other details...., and yes the etched fish will be used, I will try to pad them up a bit with Fimo clay and bake it over if it works, to get them a bit more flechy 3D looking. I also wanted to do some eels wiggling in the fish boxes.
I have ordered some reddish (bordeau colored) cotton cloth for the sail making, but may also try a more brownish tinted color, perhaps even two colors on the 5 sails, like some of the actual Zeesboots have

    Hi Martin,

thanks for your check-in, and for your nice comments...
For further fitting out gadgets I was searching for an oven (Cabin heating and boiling up water for tea / coffee). I was looking for doll house furniture or so, etc... but these were all in wrong scale 1:12
Then by luck found one in brass  at Ebay in scale 1:24, did a bit of modification, painting to it, built a setz off tube over the cabin roof leading chimney tube, and here we are... Even found a small waterkettel in scale 1:24..
the fire extinguishers and the ax are also in the correct scale. I`m also looking out for some red/brown polyester or dralon cloth (surplus rest bits from an actual sailmaker) for making the sails from.
Also many thanks to all who clicked the "likes"

    Hello Pete and Geert,

in fact these are from Ebay bought ones.... When ordering them from a picture and the description, they looked like something real special, as openable glassed, and cast ones, and like Geert I found them atractive. After reception I was a bit disappointed though, due to the not so good quality and appearance. There I`m with Pete and I thank you Pete for the open opinion and comment on them. (do`nt worry, I love honest comments)
I trust that the porthole would have been made by investment castings. The positive is, that I could purchase only the 3 of them as needed. There wo`nt be portholes on the port side of the cabin, as there will be an outcut for viewing inside it.
Because I`m myself not very happy with them I will probably replace them by turned brass ones, with flange, glassed,  and drilled rivet holes in the flange. Have a nice relaxing Sunday.....

    Thank you Kurt and Dave.
I did try dowel for the Sheaves, Dave,  but also found they split even with a 0.5mm drill, still in the finest tradition of 18th c model making I can always pretend they are bone or ivory.😉

Looking at the Ordnance – Part 1 the barrels.
The white metal guns do have a nice scale look about them but leave something to be desired in terms of finish.
Mine had prominent seams, and there are noticeable longitudinal striations along the barrel, almost like a timber effect.

    2995
These are apparent to the naked eye and not just the macro lens.
It will prove very difficult to get a clean surface, my attempts using wire wool and files were frustrating with the danger of affecting the reinforcing rings around the barrel and the already indistinct Royal Cipher.

    3043(2)
The barrels did however respond well to blackening using Casey Brass Black.

    3047
I did happen to have a set of Chuck’s excellent little fibre Royal ciphers, the smallest of which fit perfectly on the barrel.
There is an alternative Syren barrel in Brass with a length of 11/64” (29.75mm) This is a good match for a six pounder at 1:64 scale.

I did check the availability of a resin version with Chuck but these are some time away, pity because his already produced versions are superb, complete with clear cipher and touch holes.

    3051(2)
Here a Syren 11/64” barrel on a kit carriage.

    3053
Here the same gun on an incomplete Syren carriage.

    3162(2)
     From left to right;
Blackened white metal Kit gun, Brass 11/64” Syren gun, Blackened Brass RB 29mm gun, Blackened Brass RB 32mm gun, Brass Syren gun on Syren carriage.

    3159
From a different angle, at this point the carriages are incomplete.

    3161

    3157
I do like the proportions of the kit guns, but I can’t live with the quality of the white metal.
Chris has since posted that as an upgrade to the white metal guns, cast resins versions will be available.
I would suggest that these be made standard even at some extra cost to the kit. I can’t imagine a high satisfaction level from modellers with the metal versions, and for me the shortcomings of the white metal guns do damage the kit quality image.

The Brass Syren guns are beautifully made and a set for Alert will currently cost $46.50 for the barrels and $18.00 for the Boxwood carriages if required.

RB Models of Poland also produce very nice brass guns, I used their 32mm versions as the six pounders for my Pegasus build.
These look a little heavy on the Alert carriages, but their 29mm guns are a good match and very reasonably priced at around £10 delivered to the UK for a set for Alert.

Before I make a final decision on the guns I would like to check out the Vanguard resin upgrade and will buy a set if they become available, otherwise it will be between the Brass Syren or RB guns.

In my next post I will be attending to the carriages.

    Hi Pete,
I have high respect for your wise decision to abbandon your "Bluenose project", after investing so much and enthusiastic input so far. Its a pitty at that scale that its probnaly too large for a full rigged stand-model instead.
Do`nt be sad, you`ve gained a lot of experience down the way....
I would also be interested if there were a way (PC program or so) to determine in advance the max possible displacement (weight) for not exceeding the construction waterline. This would of course include an external ballast weight, to compensate  the lateral point of the common sail area at tlting angle, for a RC sailing models.
I saw a report of the rather large RC sailing pilot schooner model "Hesper" and all these thoughts came to mind.....

    Catheads and hawse ports
The Catheads are one piece and pre-formed out of some 3mm wood, and have additional brass etch decoration and a pe cleat.
There is no reference to sheave holes in the Cathead, but I’m not sure of the wood type or whether it would stand up to slotting.
I decided to cut new Catheads out of 3mm Boxwood and cut a double sheave in the end.
This will allow for the rigging of a Cat Block and hook, something I like to see on a model.

    3066
This is where the Proxxon mill comes in, very difficult to cut these slots by hand at the scale involved unless perhaps if saw cut are made in the outboard end which is then capped.

    3091(2)
The sheaves are cut from Evergreen Plastic round section and held in place with brass wire.

    3147
I did use the brass etch cleat for the Cathead stopper and the decorative border as these would be difficult to replicate at the scale. The border has a very fine profile on it, which I decided to preserve by coating the brass with only very flat matt varnish.
The kit also includes a Cathead decoration of a Crown representation.
There is no evidence that ships of this period carried such a cipher; Known decorations consisted of Lion/cat faces (hence the name) Star motifs, Fouled Anchors, and simple geometric mouldings.

    3142(2)
I replaced this with a Fouled Anchor motif.

    3140
I added a cleat on the upright to secure the Cat tackle.

    3144(2)
I used the kit provided Hawse Port parts.

    3134
The final addition to the Cathead set up are the support brackets.

    3150

    3152

    3148

I will next have a look at the guns.

After much thought indeed I have decided to abandon project.
    There are many reasons.
1 I do not have the knowledge to scale down a prototype drawing to enable a working RC scale model.
2 I should have researched more fully.
3 I have listened to experienced modellers and full scale boat builders about the basic requirements for a successful rc sailing model and I have gone about this with enthusiasm but total lack of know how.
4 It is going to end up simply far too heavy the way it is built. It weighs 10 kg already . I include pics of my grandson laying alongside on the wet pavement to appreciate scale. Poor boy but he willingly laid there when told to.
5 If I were to proceed it would weigh at least double and the waterline would end up near the gunwales.
6 I am happy to build boats but I prefer to build designs that are proven and tested as that I believe is my path to success.
I am happy now that the worries with Bluenose are at an end.
I am also happy that I have cut it off the building board and weighed it at this stage as it has affirmed my apprehensions...Too heavy!
I am also a folk singer and this decision falls alongside one of my favourite singer/ songwriter songs...
A lessson too late for the learning by Tom Paxton.
    Anyway good bye Bluenose.
I am not sad but rejoice in building new projects that are achievable.
Here are a few pics of Bluennose before it goes to the dump and also a few pics of my new build called Emma.
It is nearly one metre long, hard chine, build from door skins and designed by Gary Webb an American modeller and full scale boat builder. You dont get better than that!
I have much pleasure in building her.
I am aware that most of you model static models so I hope you can appreciate my take on it.
I may open up an Emma thread if there is any interest.
    Thanks for your time.
    Pete
