  1. Actually, it's just being lazy, there are plenty of examples rolling around......
  2. I understand fully, but I think you've got it handled Patrick.... Ambitious project.....
  3. They draw a lot of eyes, and when cleaned up or even restored they are very pretty, but not too many people have the money to afford the upkeep..... Boat stands for "Break Out Another Thousand" ..... FIRE Truck stands for "Fully Involved Retirement Expense" Truck.... Not a whole lot of people want to own one so an old retired pumper can be had real cheap.......
  4. Because they are trying to fit the most common colors in the paint manufacturer they chose to list in the instructions..... and if this is what is happening, it is an oldie but a goodie.... Today they do a much better job as trying to get a decent look...
  5. I agree, always test new techniques first before committing them to a display piece....
  6. You remember one that was a shareware hot seller, Pacific Aces I think it was called, came on a 5.25 floppy...
  7. Parking it right next to an F-101, that's appropriate.....
  8. Open or closed cab Kurt? 700 series I believe... They can be had for around 1,500.00 if someone really has to have one...
  9. And the same to you Chris, and don't go drinking all the nog, save some for the rest of us.... {chuckle}
  10. Yeah it is a nice kit, I have a friend that does that to every model he builds, screws it to a plank, all wheels, they don't move that way but occasionally he bumps one moving it around and has to fix all the landing gear at that point...... As long as he keeps them out of harm's way, they seldom get damaged that way though....
  11. Well, lets wait till I'm closer to the finish before we judge the work ok, I"m still not so sure... It's makes me very happy that you're enjoying it brother, helps the motivation a great deal.... Thank you....
  12. Well worth the price Ken.... Mine arrived today..... I like the new bottles makes dropping a bit in a cup real easy..... I finished off the foc'sle furniture with it, applying a bit with a needle and setting the part into the glue... Works like a charm, enough grip to hold it in place with enough set time to allow correcting it's placement.... It's hold comes in about 5 minutes and full cure on 30, so be careful handling when newly placed parts are present... Getting ready to mount the main deck Bollards...... This glue, and the pickup tool, makes placing those tiny parts EASY PEASY...... I suspect the same with the PE.....
  13. I think it would appear patchy and blotchy and very dark green against the red anti-fouling paint.... Word I get from friends in the navy tell me that ALL ships get barnacles/slimed, even aluminium ones, you just never see them..... And the pesticides they use on Military Naval Vessels today pretty much eliminated them from being a typical issue for every dry docking.... All they do now is a casual inspection of the hull and the experts decide if they need a scraping and re-coating.... During WWII, scraping the hull was automatic on a ship being dry docked for longer than three days....
  14. First time in 400 years brother, 800 years since it's happened at night where people can actually see it.... (and unfortunately it is raining buckets right now, I can't see it)
  15. I agree, I did that white winter luftwaffe camo once on a captured Gloster Gladiator, you know the rlm light grey with the dark grey/black squiggly lines all over it? Had to do it in one sitting, just something changes when you do it in two sessions, they never look the same...... or better put, they look the same but they just don't feel the same, others can tell the difference..... EG... Nice work...
  16. I don't know, from the condition of the ship in the pic there isn't much there to scrape, and weren't these things aluminium hulled? from what I heard barnacles don't like aluminium..... (neither does algae) Lower weight, less maintenance... (sounds like a beer commercial slogan doesn't it)
  17. Why, you already caught the cold, right along with the rest of us my friend..... Besides the guvernuer might send his goons if you go outside, then, give you a ticket for breathing fresh air..... {chuckle}
  18. It's actually each class has it's own design.... This one was tested on the HMS Argyle, then retro fitted to the Kent and another ship of the class.. (I forget which, and I have been unable to find if they were retrofitted to the other three ships of the class) I think they tested five different variations, the ones the fitted to the HMS Manchester were a different flatter style which only gave a 10% increase in fuel economy. the ones on the kent and her sisters gave a 13% increase..... But when your talking thousands of tons of fuel, it makes a pretty big difference...
  19. Nice Work Kevin! You've got that mottled green technique down.... Perfect execution....
  20. Gimme a few minutes, I have to go back to the replicator for another easy chair.... I'll be here.....
  21. Well can't stop them from maximizing their money, but it is the same kit, with mostly the same sprues..... I've been thinking about CV-1 for some time now... (but I wish that Trumpeter had put the PE in the kit rather than making it a cost+ upgrade) Her last mission as an AVP was carrying P-40's to Java, which would be a nice look for her....
  22. It's already out there brother.... https://www.amazon.com/Trumpeter-Navy-Aircraft-Carrier-Langley/dp/B07YSJYMW6 Trumpeter also has an update set... https://freetimehobbies.com/1-350-trumpeter-uss-langley-cv-1-upgrade-set/ As does Eduard... https://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/edu53254.htm The other part of my issue is getting approval from the war department, right around 200.00 just to get your foot in the door...
  23. Looks very tasty, but Like Lou, I don't know if I could handle her as an AVP... (seeing as she was the first aircraft carrier we lost in WWII)
  24. AH! The guild is getting stronger! Nice recovery my friend....
