Right on! I doubt that anyone who looks at the model will have a set of templates to check that the hull exactly matches the prototype. If it looks good it is good. Don’t obsess over the exact shape. When I made my Young America, Newsboy, and the Essex, once I had a smooth hull I was happy. I never worried if the shape was exact.

Re “I got you beat, Jud” from Cleet, I was punch card coding an IBM 1620 in 1962. Didn’t do any CAD but I developed a symbolic algebraic interpreter that would manipulate polynomial expressions. It was very slow! But then, the computer only had 64,000 bits (not bytes, bits) of memory. I was a sophomore math major at UNH  at the time.
And I had to hike uphill both ways in the snow to get to the computer center. And fend off dinosaurs at the same time. LOL

I think I used the wrong paint on the second coat and the plastic crazed up. Sanding would have remove detail. It was no longer a fun job

We’ve been spending winters (Januaryish to aprilish) in Florida for the past 14 years or so. In a travel trailer until this year. Since were both in our mid seventies we now prefer hotels and nice cabins. Florida is wonderful until May. Then it is just to darn hot!
We could never live here year round. I will say that Florida has just about the best state parks we’ve seen and we’ve stayed in more than 1/2 of the states in the US.  Our favorite is Grayton Beach State Park. This year we will stay in one of their cottages. We love the white sandy beaches all along the panhandle.

Deck is finished and oiled. I think I will sand it lightly and do a second coat. Also got the first coat of black on the hull.

I’ve been planking the deck.  That is slow work.

I put some planking down as reference and then begin assembling coamings for the various hatches etc. In the photo I am test fitting the coaming around the main hatch opening. I still need to trim back the decking at tiny bit.  I am finding it very difficult to work with wood to tolerances of 1/64” or less. 😬 My eyes certainly aren’t what they used to be.  The photo also demonstrates the versatility of the Hobby Zone building slip

A lesson on reading ahead and studying the plans.  I was about to start the planking when I read the second paragraph in the instruction’s section on planking. It said there is part call a “thick pad” around the main mast and should be put in before planking, so as to plank around it.  This is not shown in the simplified deck plan on sheet (#tbd). On the other hand this plan sheet recommends adding some scrap wood around the hatch positions to help support the hatch coamings and deck planks, which is also in the instructions but I overlooked it at first. So be careful. Plans and instructions complement each other. Additionally, there is no laser cut “thick pad” in my kit. It is not mentioned on the list of laser cut parts and I couldn’t find such a piece. So I scratch built it.  The mast in the photo is just there to keep everything aligned.

While trying to fit the fashion pieces at the stern I realized that my stern and transom did not agree with the plans. I had to rip out some planking and reshape the stern block. I should have been more careful with the shaping when I first did it.  Maybe I learned a good lesson.  Once again the building slip shows it’s versatility.

I haven’t posted progress for a while since the admiral and I were touring Colorado.  Beautiful country!
Since we’ve returned I’ve finished planking the “A” band. Slow work.

Wow almost 2 months since my last post.  Been busy with other projects but I also had a VERY difficult time with the sheer rail at the bow.  The laser cut pieces were constantly breaking.  Every time i tried to work near the bow my hand would slip or I'd put too much pressure on something and snap, the rail would break along the grain.  i think every layer of grain now has been glued together. Finally got it in and inserted the bulwarks; also a difficult task getting them all aligned.  I couldn't figure out how to feather the waterway into the ceiling planks without the ceiling planks in place. So I modified the build order and laid a few ceiling planks and this provided a reference to feather the waterway. As one can see in the photo, more sanding is needed for a smooth transition. The Morgan will go on a 10 week hiatus as my wife and i are traveling up to the Canadian Maritime Provinces. Specifically, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

The wife and I are heading off to Florida for a bit of sun and shrimp. I've packed up the hull, the copper strips, some sharp knives and the plans and hope to have her coppered by the time we return.

Model is 1/72, a Fujimi kit. Thanks for the offer, but I am quite happy with the empty cockpit.

I recently started my Fujimi A 6A intruder Knight Riders kit that has been on my shelf for at least 25 years. This is the seat module. The kit included pilot and navigator figures but I lost the head of one 😯. I decide just to omit them.

latest on the A-6 Intruder is that I totally messed up the painting and sent it to the circular file.  No more aircraft for me for a while.

Definitely need to do that. The finished deck was a bit uneven but sanding corrected that.
