  1. Looking great, Bruma! You are a big inspiration to me. Thank you very much!
  2. Great! Many thanks, Kevin! I was planning to travel to Greenwich to see the ship myself and take "some" pictures.
  3. I have never thought about that, but it is a very interesting idea and I look forward to see how you will progress on that. Looking at what you have accomplished till now, I am sure it will be magnificent as well. Thank you for sharing with us and raising the bar so high (if that is a correct translation 😉)
  4. thanks for the thumb-ups and comments 😄
  5. The first layer is not yet finished, but I will add brackets for the copper bulwarks in the frames. As I have to turn the hull up and around for the second layer of planking, I stop the 1st layer here and start the 2nd layer now. In the meantime I am enjoying the beautiful lines of the ship ...
  6. Good to see you are back. Take it easy, although I know it is not easy on a model like Cutty Sark 😉
  7. Very impressive, Rob, but would it be an idea if you used a plain background when taking your pictures. I think your masterpiece would stand out even more.
  8. You did a perfect job on the teak paint, Kevin! I hope to obtain a similar result when painting wood, but that will not be for tomorrow.😉
  9. Time for an update, I would think: I am halfway my first planking. I did a rough sanding to see how it will look like
  10. It is nice to see somebody from the neighbourhood in this tremendous community and nice to know we can always meet at the MoTH Modelbouw Team Hulsthout (RC club)
  11. Looks great Dirk, I will be following your build with pleasure!
  12. Speaking about deckhouses. It seems that the aft deckhouse was originally 20 ft and later became 24 ft. Has anybody details when this change was made, if at all?
  13. You are doing a great job and thank you for the beautiful pictures. I also wish to thank you all for the inspirational comments.
  14. Many thanks for all your pictures. Your yards are superb!
  15. Can I add some more drawings? The one below is from JJ van Griethuysen from Nederlandse Vereniging van Modelbouwers (NVM). There are available when the vessel was trading in the tra trade as well as in the wooltrade.Foc'sle.pdf
  16. The shrouds from CS are in steel. @Ian_Grant have you take into account when referring to 1/3 the size of the shroud? Thanks
  17. @Kevin-the-lubber I am patiently awaiting your feedback. I am still in dubio whether to make a ropewalk and walk the ropes myself or purchasing good quality. Thanks
  18. Now, I am convinced and will order the ornaments from HisModel for my Cutty Sark from Mantua. It is far better than what I found in the box. I might have to order 2 sets, whenever I break something 😉 As for the chainplates, has anybody an idea how to attach those to the bulwarks. I intend to have the bulwarks in brass.
  19. According Longridge, one should use half-round 1/16" brass wire, which should be 1/32" (gauge 20) for your Revell kit. For me this translates to 1 mm, but that does not correspond to my dead-eyes of 3.5mm dia. I intended to use round wire of 0.5 mm, so I am a bit at loss what to do, the more that I have some nice pictures pushing me to the half-round wire option. Question remains: how to close the half-round wire?
  20. According to Wolfram Zu Mondfeld, deadeyes should be 6 mm on 1:96 scale, but Longridge mentions 1/4 inch for the big ones and 3/16 for the smaller ones, which translates to 1/8 inch (3,2 mm) and 3/32 (2,4 mm) so your order seems to be perfect. According to my NWM plans the big ones should be close to 3,8 mm and the others and 2,8 mm for my 1:78 scale. I am not yet there to start rigging but installing the lower deadeyes will be fun, I expect. Did I already tell you fantastic you Cutty Sark looks? 😉
  21. I did some research In Longridge' Cutty Sark and found below explanation, see picture Booby hatch Longridge.pdf
  22. The hull is now as good as ready for planking, still some fine fairing required in some minor areas. The filler blocks in the middle serve a dual purpose: the mast are in the same position as the bulkhead and therefore 2 bulkheads are joined together; the other purpose is their usual purpose (giving more surface to the planking). I like the view when the hull is lined off with tread as it gives a good impression how the ship will look like. The masts are just installed to give a better view and need to be lined up 😉
