    hi all
    just a quick update.

    keelson has now been fitted

bolts for the scarf joints are 0.4mm copper........Goodwin says 1"-1/2" for these bolts so I spilt the difference and went for 3/4" more or less.

bolts for the keelson into the frames are 0.8mm copper at every other frame station again as per Goodwin ...approx. 1 1/2" full size.

quarter deck clamps are being glued in.....all treenails fitted prior to glueing.

    cheers for now.......mick

    hi all

time for another update. been busy installing gun port sills and stern framing,

starboard side stern framing had to come out as I made a boo boo with a couple of measurements.

    port side is ok.

made up a clamp to act as a saw guide for cutting out the sill rebates.....just a couple of pieces of 1/16 x 1/4 brass with tapped holes on one piece and clearance holes on the other for 3/4 inch 8ba bolts......I used an 8ba box spanner to tighten the nuts.....the silver tube in the photos.

just one more set of sills to go before I start on the lintels and finish the stern framing......then the sweep ports to fit.....and on to fairing the internals before fitting the keelson pieces.

    photos enclosed as per usual.

all comments and screams of approbation welcome.

    cheers for now.......mick

Jud, I think you misunderstand my motivation for starting this thread. I'm not trying to 'judge' anyone, and I'm not saying a beginner can't complete a complex model (we've all seen it done). But in the pages of MSW 2.0, its predecessor MSW 1.0, the old Dry Dock Models forum, and the anecdotal evidence provided by manufacturers, we have overwhelming evidence that newbies regularly attempt more model than they are capable of handling. We don't send first-time skiers to the black diamond runs, and we don't let first-year medical students do heart transplants -- the same principle applies to ship models: try something commensurate with one's skills. I'm really not trying to turn people away -- I'm trying to help them make a choice of first model that will increase their chance of staying in the hobby. Success breeds more success. And haven't we all read about the much-bemoaned demise of the hobby? Hundreds (quite literally) of people quitting their attempts at building certainly doesn't alleviate that problem.

    hi keith
thanks for stopping by and the compliments....much appreciated.
we used to have a Labrador that was an inveterate twitcher when snoring his head off.
must have been dreaming of chasing rabbits or cats......no chipmunks in dear old blighty!

my skills , such as they are , have developed over thirty five years of modelmaking of one sort or another.
like many I started with airfix kits then the new wave of Japanese kits , Tamiya etc........I was also an avid meccano and lego buff as a kid.
I have always made things.....its what I do!

keep those tools razor sharp and plenty of practice.....if at first its not right do it again...and again....and again......and soon the dream will become reality!
