The last couple of days rigging and hanging the two course yards has brought a whole new meaning to "yard work". Again I had to do some detective work since the plans have drawing errors and conflicts in details. I went to the picture file on the replica ship and sorted things out between the two.
Here are the two course yards rigged before hanging including the cargo lifting tackle with hooks. This may save some time for those who down the road will build this kit.
Here is the foremast yard hung in place using the same technique as the real ship as described in the assembly instructions. It would have been helpful if a final assembled perspective drawing was included in the plans in addition to the separate details.
Here is a closeup detail which I had to sort out from the replica images. This again demonstrates my lack of experience in ship building and that certain details are not explained for those building a ship for the first time.
Here are the two yards hung in place. I now understand why certain elements are configured the way they are and result in a tight fit once in place. Now more lines can be added to the course yards before moving up to the next yards. This is like playing chess and having to think two or three steps ahead so as not to add an interference line.
Now back to "yard work".

last week wasn't a very productive week for me......I started it off with one simple step, and it turned into a bout of reconstructive surgery. this week isn't shaping up to be any better........fixing an electrical problem with my car windows on Tuesday, and acquiring a part time job yesterday {interview}......I'm hoping the rest of this week is a bit less eventful.
now that the ship doesn't have to be turned over anymore {I hope}....I figured that I would put in all the belaying pins in the rails. they were installed on the mizzen pin rails.
they were installed in the fore deck pin rails
they were installed in the bow stem pin rail. I had also fashioned and installed a horse shoe shaped collar for the bow spirit boom
but, when I got to the main mast pin rails, here's where the project began
apparently, they were not as sturdy as I thought they were. refitting them, I could see where I had left a gap along the rail and the bulwark. rather than open or deepen the slots in the rails themselves, it was decided that evening off all the posts, would be the better remedy. to adjust the slots would bring the pins closer to the bulwarks and could make it harder at rigging time.
it was a long process......but I did get to the point where it could be cemented back into place.
the port side wasn't as bad........but I did do a little adjusting to the slots in the rail. everything is back to normal now. I can move forward again

...Hull planking resumes after a 14-month hiatus (thought it was 16 months, so I feel a tiny bit better)
You can see where the port and starboard planking doesn't always match with perfect bilateral symmetry, but I've tried to compensate along the way...

I installed the oar locks, I used masking tape to try and mark the proper locations and spacing between each lock. My efforts had a less than perfect outcome but I can live with it.

I wanted to post this update last night........but I was too pooped to pop I did this on Friday. with the rudder fitted out, it was dry fitted on the ship to see how it would look.
it was cemented in place........holes were then drilled for the simulated bolts
completed, it looks like this.
the other side was done........and then it was touch up time. once done, the final results.
just to add to it, a monkey chain was added. it looks a bit off.......there is a reason.....the rudder is turned to port slightly. I did this to compensate.
now....I can do a bit more to the bow.......first the gammoning was done.
lastly, the knees were added to the bow stem.......still a bit more to go in this area.
I have one more work day to go...........happy labor day.....to all who celebrate it .....and a belated happy Father's day to all of my Australian friends

jct reacted to Jerry's Admiral in H.M.S. BOUNTY by Jerry's Admiral - FINISHED - Amati - Scale 1:60
Popeye..
Thank you for your kind wishes. I am feeling much better having had the surgery two weeks ago today. And I'm happy to say that i was back in the shipyard working on Bounty's hull and managed (with my mate's help) to get further along on the first planking layer. Jerry took a picture of me so that I could prove i really was back to work.

After a hiatus from building over the Labor Day weekend helping my wife at an art show I am back at adding all the mast stay lines for the standing rigging. I added the balance of the lines to the bowsprit and then basically worked fore to aft and bottom to top. I quickly learned that it requires a delicate touch when seizing the lines so as not to warp or deflect the thinner mast sections out of alignment. I left most of the top ends of the lines not glued to allow for rope stretching under tension and adjusted as needed and will not glue them until all the yards are in place.
I found the assembly instructions not very helpful and I felt like a detective tracing the lines to their attachment points; especially when not identified. I am sure part of the problem is my lack of specific knowledge of rigging since this is my first ship build. Following are pictures of most of the lines in place. I also need to acquire a better background for photographing since she is getting bigger.
Once the final stay lines are completed I will then start the yards working from bow to stern, bottom to top and then add the booms.

Nice railings Popeye...as Jerry stated no such railings on the Corel kit or plans...I'm guessing their sailors were more sure footed then Billing's
Hey attached are the pics with dimensions, the spacing between them are all the same.

thanks for the compliment.....the Corel and the Billing's kits are pretty good. they do have some conflicting takes on her appearance and how she was fitted.
so, I'm adding in the combined details and following the art work of the actual ship.......a rebuild of this fine ship. I'm sure I'm missing something here and there......if your thinking of taking up the gauntlet.....I wish you the best of luck. perhaps you will find the missing pieces and make yours a true replica

I wanted to further along with this build, than I thought I had.........if that makes any sense. these past couple of days, I have been moving from one table to the other.......surprised that I only got a few pictures of mu time with the Half Moon.
I did some measuring and spacing with the gun port lids
masked and painted the rudder.........went into my inventory and got the Gungeons and pintle hinges I had made for an earlier build. I need to look at the actual ship to see if I can get away with just the two.......if not I can make another.
the gun ports are cemented in place. the only chain board that I'm going to need to make any adjustments on, will be the main mast boards.
