Thay have that routine worked out very well.  It is amazing what the old generation could do without the power tools these lads are using.  That is not to take away from their skills; they certainly work fast and well.

OK, OK you're making me hungry - where's the fresh fish already?   Very nice and lifelike build of a working trawler build Denis; love the detail.

Congrats on your retirement Alan.  You may be swimming in circles at the moment but I am sure the eddies are taking you in the right direction.

Now the bottom of the hull is done, it’s back to brass. The decks are all beautiful scribed brass. They fit perfectly (if you have put the plastic together perfectly- otherwise one needs to do some trimming) but the difficulty of large bits of brass is getting them to sit flush.

This is s a major part of the build as everything else will sit on this. I will have to clean up the brass with acetone prior to painting

this morning,  I though I'd do some of the last bits to the Norden.   as I had mentioned earlier,  I had strung the buoy rings on the guy rope I rigged up for them.  I also rolled up the ladder,  I had set up on the port side.

like john,  I wasn't too keen on the plastic plates with the fish detail on them.  I think I had another build that had them to......I believe it was the Mary Ann.   I tossed them out.........now I'm wishing I had hoarded them as well.  I have this idea of cutting the fish from the parts and laying them in the trays.   they might look a bit more natural.

I rigged an extra single block and cleat to the aft mast,  and prepared the aft sail.   simply.......fold over the edge pleats and trap some thread in between,  creating an eyelet at both ends of the bottom.  I traced the pleat lines on both sides of the sail.   as I mentioned.......for two sails,  I wasn't going to get too fancy.   now if I were working on a Bluenose or something,  it might be a different story

as I've done for all my other builds,  a suggestion made by John {Jim Ladd}...{what John.....since the Nordkap   }  is to remove the fake rope off of the life preservers,  and put some real stuff on them.  it can be a pain,  depending on how cooperative the procedure goes,  but I like the way they come out.  it starts by removing the fake rope.

I save these pieces.......depending on how well they are removed,  I think they could be used as regols for the gun port lids on sailing ships at this time, they have been painted red....soon to be rigged up.  after the buoy rings were gathered, the guy rope was tied to the spreader on the starboard shroud.  I made up a rope coil for it, to finish it off.

the aft sail being done,  and the tackle added to the mast,  the sail was hung and tied.  a rope coil was made for it as well.

if I get more done.......got an errand to run.......I'll post it tonight      thanks for look'in in!

Geez. A lot of cannon shot passed through those frames. It must have been a very hot action! Your battery of cannon returned fire, I hope. They look good.

    Bow Structure Progress....
I finally corrected an issue that has bothered me for months.... the bowsprit steps.  It was brought to my attention by a local modeler who asked me about the angle of the steps.
OK, so the flats of the steps were noticeably pitched at an angle that would not have served well for walking on.

So, I ripped them off and re-cut them.... much better.
I also painted the flats of each step.  Also note the gammon irons have been added (a royal pain in the butt).  I definitely think they should have been added before installing the heads.

Next, I created the little life ring - and added the three steps to the bulwarks.

Finally, I was able to fill in the opening above the bowsprit....
Think I'll move to the stern and begin detailing the stern bulwarks next.

Before you go too far down this road, remember that the figure cannot project too far forward and is constrained by the bowsprit above and the lower cheek termination aft (red lines, approximate). Everything would be far more compacted, with minimal projections, such as wings or fully extended arms, to catch and be broken off.

Quite a bit has happened since my last post.
I am unofficially retired as of March 3rd (over a week ago).  About 9 months earlier than planned but my employer made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Still making frames. Reached over the model and snapped the top timber off one that was still attached.  Remade it but none are attached as yet.

At the office I stood at my desk 90% of the time (one that adjusted) and now find my home desk computer screen height uncomfortable.  So yesterday I made a floating shelf.  It has been stained and needs a coat of Polyurethane before it gets mounted.  This is taking up room in the shipyard (playroom) so, as I cannot work on the ship at the moment, I decided to work on sketches for my figurehead.  I know I am getting way ahead of myself, but I also know this is going to take considerable amount of time, trial and error, to get right... so best start early.

After searching the web I decided on an image I liked and might be able to manipulate.
I inserted the image into DraftSight (a free downloadable early version of AutoCAD) and traced the image.
I worked in layers, hence the three colours to differentiate the layers.  I also used polylines and joined as many as possible.
I may have the back hoof too big.

I then inserted an image of my model's bow layout onto my sheet and traced it.  I suppose I should have made a DXF of the drawing, copied and pasted it in.
DOH!   I'll do that next time when I get a better sense of the figurehead.

I scaled the wings smaller as they are a bit large.  Then I scaled Pegasus down leaving Bellerophon as is.
Then mirrored the whole thing so it was facing the same way as the bow and could be copied into my bow sketch.

I inserted this into the bow sketch, scaled it up to suit, rotated and took it in for a bit... let it soak in my brain.

Next I rotated Bellerophon, leaning him forward.
Rotated his right arm and both legs.

    and finally shortened the spear.

I think she is getting there.  The spear isn't quite right.  Might need to fold the legs back at the knees.
I'll let this percolate a bit and come back to it later.
But you can get a sense of where I am going.

A special thank you to RMC for sending me some measurements off his Vanguard model and the optional 2nd Bellerophon figure head he had in his kit.
I've asked for a couple more measurements to help refine my sketch area.

Now I think I'll work on the 1:48 scale template drawings Gary requested a while ago (but I suggested he wait until I retired as I'd have more time then).

Then I have a shelf to put up, frames to make and install, take my car in for her regular maintenance....

i Dave, thanks for looking in.  The printer is one of 2 a mate of mine purchased; he is a wiz at 3D and G code and rather than learn even more skills before I have mastered the few I have,I have taken up his kind offer to produce these for me

Many thanks for looking in and your kind comments Jason, I'll keep you posted on the capstan.  Latest attempt allows most of the detail to be presented such as the capstan bar holes etc, but the bar locking pins are proving too much for the printer at 1:72.  The hardest part will be trying to paint this as I have developed the 'old fella' shakes   The doctor suggested I have a few drams the night before (but was careful to mention that he was not encouraging me to drink :))
