  1. Deck is looking good, Nenad! Where to next?
  2. Nenad: I am indeed planning the capstan bars and rack. Not sure how I'll treat the moulding around the bottom, however. These will be dealt with after all deckhouses are permanently installed. (After the pinrails and bulkhead mouldings, and probably after the headwork at the bow...)
  3. Four sheave blocks were fabricated; Thank You, Nenad, for providing the picture that I used to fabricate these pieces
  4. Finally finished stanchions; (well, not really they need paint, and rings, etc..) Here's a pic with the port "head" (that I built about a year ago) temporarily sitting in place... These, and the deckhouses, will not be installed until all the bulwark detail and main/cap rails are finished.
  5. Almost done with the stanchions, next move is to drill the holes for the deadeye stays...
  6. Thanks for your thoughts, Nenad; Indeed, I had today off of work and was planning to go walking with the Admiral, since it was very nice outside. (63 F). We made it about 3 blocks and I had to go back; sneezing, wheezing, and out of energy. I then sat at the workbench and looked at my builds, but didn't have enough energy to do anything... Two hours later, I decided to mix some Bloody Marys, and have a beer or two, and then felt better to do some more stanchions...
  7. Added the first outside planks, port and starboard, immediately beneath the gunport sills. Noticed after the fact they should be 1/8" wide, I used 3/32". Oh well... These will be the bottom most prepainted planks; I will pre-paint the planks above in order to save the tedious masking around the 1/32" port trim, as I did for the inner bulwarks. Also, this plank, and the one beneath, (and the topmost) will be the last continuous planks, as I plan to cut the hull planking and stagger the butts when planking the belts.
  8. Good luck at the dentist; funny thing, I had a dental appointment today too, but I rescheduled it for next week because I have a bad cold.
  9. Nenad; Campbell's plans are accurate. I am facing a similar problem. When I laid my deck I was not careful enough with the height at the waterway, and now when I place the stanchions, they vary in lenght because of my error. I am not as brave as you to tear out the whole deck, so I'm hoping the gradual inconsistencies will go unnoticed for the most part. It's one of those things I choose to live with, and work goes on, slowly.........................
  10. Looks like some of the wooden plugs have popped out, (or removed purposely) exposing the bolt-heads beneath. At my scale, 1:76.8, the 5 inch deck planks are replicated with 1/16" wide strips (1.59 mm). Direct measurement of the picture would make the hole roughly 1/2", or about 0.2 mm at my scale; smaller than my smallest drill bit (0.3 mm) Could it be done? Sure. Do you want to try it? Only Nenad will decide...
  11. Clip showing my other build; the US Brig Niagara; this is a kit from Model Expo; and she lives right next to the Cutty...
  12. Nenad; Not to diverge from the subject at hand, but, if you have any authentic recipes from your country, (without seafood) I'd love to try them. I regularly cook Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, some Italian and French... I'm a born and raised Nebraskan which means beef and corn; which I like, but it's boring... And why would a land-locked Nebraskan have a fascination with tall ships? From an early age? (Third grade, I think)... Bob
  13. Niagara's inside bulwarks are planked... going to start on the outside planking. I don't want to cross build logs here. but I'm also up and running on my Cutty Sark build; installing bulwark stanchions... My goal is to spend equal amounts of time between the two, instead of building one for two months, and then the other, etc...
  14. By the way, good luck in quitting smoking; I never started but my Dad smoked 6 packs per day, and Mom smoked 4. So I know if I had started I probably never would have stopped; and Mom and Dad are no longer here...
  15. Yes, Nenad, I do envy you... I live in an apartment, with no yard to do as I want; I would love to have a garden, because one of my other hobbies is cooking. Is your CS 1:96 scale? I seem to remember seeing that in an earlier post. I planked my deck with 1/16" wide planks, which is roughly 5" at 1:76.8 scale.
  16. Tony; I wish I could get the motivation to organize my work area... What did you do before ship modeling? Bob
  17. Mark; Lol! I remember when I was fifteen putting my cylinder heads from my '64 Olds in the tub to clean them, I thought my Mom was going to shoot me...
  18. Spencer; I always copy my plans, and reflect them onto the bulkheads. there are always imperfections in kits. And there are always imperfections in kits' instructions. That is why you need to look outside the box (Very literally) and determine what you need. No rabbet line? Make one. No bearding line? Make one. No sheer plan? If you need it, Find one. Don't know how to do this? Do the research. For every 10 minutes I spend working on a build, I spend 1 hour looking over plans, learning, learning, learning; and researching.. This is what it's all about.. good luck and happy modeling.. Bob
  19. After "smashing" again, and some straightening, this is the final product...
  20. 6) True. This hopefully emulates a ring joined to a continuous iron bar, and not a twisted piece of wire...
  21. 5) Smash. (For lack of a better term; just makes the ring one with the stanchion)
  22. 4) Size. (tensioned wire around a 0.65 mm drill bit to make the ring)
