Hi all I decided to give this one a go, it's actually a very nice kit and at 12.99 cheap. Here's the box instruction booklet and my start on it. I intend to put it on a base in a very rough sea. -

Wow. This is the most detailed build of this kit I've ever seen. I wish I did the same as you, But I just built mine straight out of the box.

Having worked the FIFO lifestyle, I recommend packing those dowels the next time, along with a few tools.

Hello again guys. Work will be put aside for the next couple of weeks as I have my father visiting me. I have taken time off my job to spend with him. It is also my 30th on the 14th so no doubt have a beer with him. I will still however be checking in on builds on here. Cheers

Well its almost time for Dad to leave. That means back to the Friesland soon. He was most impressed and wondered where I got my patience from. Will hope to have an update for you guys soon.

Haha. Can i not get a break. Have been posted to a place called Port Hedland for a little while😡😡😡. So no modeling. I was thinking of bringing up a few tools and the rest of the dowels so I can finish off the rest of the yards but it never happend. I guess you do have to be very patient in this hobby. There is really not alot to go. Just some running rigging etc.

It would be interesting how accurate these were for setting correct height etc. Probably wouldn't rely too much on them.

Thanks guys. Yeah I reckon it would be pointless on a rolling sea. Just never seen these markings and thought I'd ask. It was a gun sitting next to the replica Amity and it had nothing to do with the ship. Just another artifact to look at

Your dad's question is typical and mostly is the friendliest a non-initiated can do! tThe underlying question is rather "how can you spend so much time on such a futile project... but there usually also is some respect in the question. Coming from your own dad, maybe the best answer would be: "dad, you know pretty well where I got the patience from..."
Well done, and now: back to work!

Most interesting build. Your actually doing a great job. Looking good for a first card model. Some of the plans for card models are abit confusing but it all works out later. Good job.

Its shouldn't be too much of a repair. Just attack it bit by bit. As long as you are ok is the main thing

tagerdvr; Never was around a quad 40, singles and twins. The Bofors, both single and twins I was around were manually fired by the right foot of the Pointer on the gun, he was often the gun captain because it saved one man for something else and a well trained gun crew worked that with no trouble other than preventing the gun Captain from moving around. On the LSTs I was aboard we had MK 51 directors which were gyro lead computing sights with a station for a man to manually crank in the range which he received from the sound powered phone system, not firing key on the director, the gun followed the director and the firing was by voice command. One reason I loved that Bofors was other than for training we left the covers on the directors and the pointer and trainer controlled the gun. Other ships, other guns, my experience with 3" 50s and 8"55s had all the options and director choices and controls running through barrel switches.
Need to do some rethinking about the Power drives and firing circuits on the Bofors, we didn't use them in RVN, but they were set up for director control against aircraft and surface targets. More details will probably come trickling in overnight and I can make some corrections and additions.
