I am open to suggestions on next build. I had picked up the Navy Frigate Alfred through FB marketplace on the cheap. So I will tackle that since, at the worst, it will be good practice as I am showing a lot of patience while working on these models.

I picked up this model from Facebook marketplace. This one was produced in 1974. There is one other example of this model on this forum and the modeler (Schooner) did a great job. I will be utilizing his pictures and advise as I attempt to tackle this project. I know it is a bit over my head, but I am patient in learning and working on my skills. I picked up an updated instruction manual from Blue Jacket. The first glaring issue I noticed is the difference in the hull. Schooner’s hull came mostly chiseled out. See the second picture. Question number 1, should I chisel out the hull so that it resembles the other modelers hull or work with the hull as is?

The plank ends need to be sanded completely flush to the transoms. If there is any small gap left, then use filler. Otherwise you'll be making a lot of dust if you fill first!
Is a regular wood filler good or is there something better for models?

@Retiredpm, I just looked at your Dory. Very nicely done! I had fun with mine, and it was quite the learning curve, as I am a rank beginner! I think you will enjoy the Pram. I am encountering all sorts of issues along the way, as you can tell, but its all part of the learning curve. Have fun! And all the build logs have been (and still are) very helpful along the way!
(On a side note, I am also a "retired project manager" (if that's what your username is referring to!)

I just completed the Dory and have ordered the Norwegian Prim. Great reading your log and can’t wait to start mine.

Since I found the Alfred to be beyond my skills, I’ve decided to take a step back and start a build that is more to my skill set. I am enjoying this hobby but need to stay in my lane until I get more experience. Using the instructions and prints provided as well as studying the builds of others will help me in tackling this project.
