    Welcome aboard Daniel,

You have come to the right place.  This is a great site for learning/sharing tips and techniques.

Have you decided yet what you want to build? There are so many choices, wood, plastic, card.
Whatever you decide, make sure it has your interest and that you really want to build it.
That way you'll be more likely to get through the trials and errors.

One of our members, Adam (SkerryAmp) has created 'The Model Ship World Ship Kit Database'. http://mswshipkits.ampitcher.com/
You can search the database on skill level, manufacturer, scale, kit type etc. It is certainly worth having a look.

I wish you smooth sailing with our gallant crew.

    Regards,
    Anja

Greetings to all, I have just joined this august gathering and am like a kid in a lolly shop!!! So much to learn, so many projects calling out to me.
I have recently returned to model ships after an indecent interval and am really looking forward to getting stuck in.

Welcome Syd from another fellow modeler still active with the Live Steam train hobby.  I'm new on the forum as well and can say everyone I've encountered has been very welcoming and helpful...I'm certain you'll find the same.

What I particularly like is the group accepts new folks at whatever level there are at regarding their ship modelling abilities, beginner or advanced...all here seem to want to provide guidance and assistance to help modelers advance knowledge and skills....what more could one want!

Looking forward to seeing your first build log as you start...

    Best Regards,
    Cliff

Proof of life...  At least I hope it is....

After testing my memory and eye-hand coordination (along with many and sundry "honey-do's"... I'm finally back.   Bear with me if my terminology isn't correct and feel free to correct it.  I'm still have some memory issues with words, names, and phrases.

First up... I've started planking the bulwarks. One strake done so far but it's a start.  And ran a production run on the Death Star and cut out probably 30 cannon carriages.  A lot more than I'll need of this size (gundeck only) but I want to have spares in case I tank a few.  Hmm... photo work needs more practice but damn if it doesn't feel great to make some sawdust.

17 months, 910 construction hours and no idea how many more spent reading and researching and this build is complete!

The wind is actually nice and calm today, (something must be getting ready to go wrong...) and so I took La Couronne on her maiden voyage out of the shipyard and into the open sea (front yard)   She sailed great with no mishaps or sinking and has completed her voyage and returned to the ship yard for supplies before going into active duty. Here are some pictures of her on her voyage.

    Bryan:
As they used to say to me when I lived in Denton Texas (for a period of time) "Y'all gonna love it here!".
This was the wisest thing the NRG board did. There is so much rich and inspiring work within. Welcome to you!
