Ken,
So now the journey is virtually completed and many of us have indeed followed your wonderful build. The plans indeed are a challenge but they hold many amazing 'secrets' and with the right encouragement from members you kept going and continually discovered more and more detail. That for you was the delight in building this ship. In the end, it is not a difficult ship to build but one that requires patience and that you had plenty of. Your efforts gave back to us the encouragement that we all needed to keep going with our own projects. As an old English saying goes (being an Aussie, I am guessing its correct) ... 'I dips me lid'. Well done Ken.

Nice solution to your hand issue - I find rigging difficult with 2 good hands!

Hello Everyone,
I've managed to finish the rigging to my complete satisfaction.
As you were aware I was very apprehensive about this part of the build as I just couldn't figure it out at first from the plans. I said that I wasn't concerned about accuracy and was going to do a sort of generic rig based on the Victory, but like the rest of this build once I stopped worrying and got stuck in it revealed it's secrets. I started following the plan from the upper yards downwards, at first it wasn't overly difficult to get about right, being encouraged I continued with the RW plans and not my own ideas. It was like a crossword, the more words that you get done the more clues as to the next words you get, so as I worked downwards the sequence and reasoning of the lines became clearer and I understood the plans more. I think that I ended up with a reasonably accurate rig that looks good.
The boat lifts that I'd made earlier now looked too simple and not in keeping so I made them up again to look something like they would have been. I'll be making up two boats, a pinnace and a launch next rather than the one launch supplied in the kit, it's just a personal preference.
The anchors which I'd made earlier are now also in place.
The weather at the moment as quite bad and the light in my room is so poor that it's difficult to photograph detail, I'm having to use a tripod so I can't get the angles needed or get in close. I've managed these but I'll post a better selection when the conditions permit.

Well, silly me for not reading Pete`s notes carefully. Re-did the spritsail yard braces. I did simplify them slightly as I could not get the aft block under the top installed - just not enough room to get my hands in there.

A little more progress - the foremast yards are all fully rigged(except for the braces which will be added later). I added 2 braces to the spritsail yard which were not shown on the plans - I don`t know how else they would keep it from swinging around without them. Also added the sheet lines to the spritsail yard & the tack lines to the fore yard. The foresail sheet lines will be added later also. That`s a lot of ropes coming down to the deck!

More work on the lower hull planking today, I decided to try the idea of working from the keel in rows upwards, till I meet the plank below the wale, it just took a little plank bending at both the bow and stern, but the middle section went on dry with no adjustment.
Here are the pics -

More progress today, I removed the pins from the bottom edge of the wale, then after a light sanding, It was ready to paint flat black like the other side, I applied several light coats drying with a hairdryer between each.
Photo shows the current progress.

More work continued today in two stages, first I sanded down the top section of the wale as I built it in several pieces, then I had to drill through for the run outs, next I went through the holes with a 2mm square file and carefully opened up the ports.
Next I shaped the end near the beak head end of the next section of wale (a complete length this time) and put this end in boling water to soften ready for bending, after a few hours I was able to pin the beak head end then working from bow to stern I ran a length of pins holding the wale in place till set.
I also ran a pencil line above the wale to match what I had done on the other side(acting as a visual extension of the wale).
Here are the pics folks.

I couldn't resist doing some more work at the bench(living room table) I have decided to increase the apparent width of the wale by painting a strip ontop of the (Insatlled wale side), first I ran a line and then taped an even line with blue decorators tape, then I applied a few flat black coats of acrylic paint, this I will do on the side where I am constructing the wale sections also.

Mark,
That 'small' change to your spritsail brace is a stand-out feature and well worth the extra effort. I must say again (and many have said it earlier), your attention to detail and keeping things historically accurate has been impressive throughout this build.

Mark,
The following figure is from R.C. Anderson where he suggests that the form of spritsail yard bracing (only the starboard shown to keep things 'simple') was typical in English ships around 1690. Just another piece of the jigsaw.
