Another small update - the topgallant & topsail yards are now mounted after fastening all those tiny blocks to the yards. The lifts are only done on the topgallant yards - the rest will be done after all the yards are mounted. The braces will be about the last thing done - with them in place it`s really hard to get my hands in to do other rigging. The topgallant halliards are belayed to deadeyes at the mast tops & the topmast yard halliards for the fore & main are belayed to the chain wales. For the ribs & parrels,I had some ribs left over from a previous build & the parrels are from the bead store(I never throw away leftover parts & wood). Thanks for looking in.

Update :
today, fitting out some of the crew-life under deck...., as long as there is still some access to the interior.
The combination (table with sitting benches) was assembled within the ship with tweezers etc....
Nils
All figurines scale 1:48
the hull single-planking is with 6 x 1,5mm planks....
the standing hight midships is not too much, but it gets better towards bow and stern
the hull pencil-marking left in the pic is the waterline.....

Another photographic test: Taking pictures with an Ikea $20 LED lamp.
On the second deck, there will be 10 windows aft. 6 windows are inside the limit of the frames and the other 4 will be added later. Looking at the plan it is difficult to set the width of the windows, so I looked at it a different way to set the position of 8 vertical beams.
3 beams are installed : 1 on each wall and the middle one. Then, each half was divided in 3 spaces between beams.
In a global way, these are the only measures needed to set the vertical beams.
The width for the gun opening is derived from the setting of 2 upper beams.

Thanks for the likes and for looking in
A lot more work done on the stern.
The carvings have been painted and fitted to the stern with two pack adhesive , still a few more to do
The figurehead has also been painted and dry fitted to the bow stem .
l have completed the dead eyes and chain plates. The chain in the kit was gold and looked out of place so I have painted it a dark iron paint which looks so much better.
Still lots more to do so till the next time happy building

HM Cutter Cheerful 1806- 1816
This is my new project following completion of the Pinnace and Long-boat kits.
I have had this offering from Chuck's Syren stable, including the wood set, gathering dust beneath my workbench since 2016, and I have been collecting all the subsequent add-ons, and fittings as they have been issued.
So I now have all the makings to hopefully do justice to the fine materials, fittings, and the beautiful plans produced by Chuck.
A period now to organise the build, assimilate the instructions and read thro' logs of those who have gone before.
A couple of holding pics of my last foray into cutter building some 30 years ago, a bashed version of the Mamoli kit at 1:72 scale.
3070
007
Still on display in my Dining room, uncased, but fairly easy to periodically clean, she remains one of my favourites.
Regards,
B.E.
ps: I did show Mrs W the actual plans of Cheerful and pointed out the actual, not insubstantial size of the beast.; Fazed she was not in the least; what can possibly go wrong with her on-side .

Denis: Thanks I was thinking of posting the technique that seems to work just fine.
It took about 10 or so of these to get what I was hoping for - looking as they do now. (bow area was a learning area)
These last three are what I like much better. Thanks so much for your nice compliment - always appreciated.
Will, in-fact, post the sequence next week - simple enough ----- Heading out of town for the long weekend.
Cheers

Thank you very much Carl,
I`ll be surprized myself what is cooking in the pot....., maybe some fish soup or stew... with thunny chunks...
Am meanwhile thinking ahead about the decoration of the ship, think I`ll be going for some figures out of the maritime Greek Mythology, like dolphines, mermaids with starfish and Neptune / Poseidon, the mythology`s ocean god. Have chosen his head with long hairs and beard in resin as the rudder-head figure.....
Nils
Neptune / Poseidon out of the Greek Mythology
(the figure is from De Agostoni, Italy )
guess whats cooking here....
will put a little paint on the figure head later...

Update :
Made the stove for cooking on deck, but moved it under the sheltered deck, it will get a chimney through the deck above later on.
Also for the doubts of those finding the rudder possibly a bit slim, I increased the width by 1,5 mm....

Hello Everyone,
The rigging is progressing nicely. Except for the braces I've completed all the upper yards and all the mizzen rigging. The mizzen took quite a bit of working out, the Victory wasn't any help here. It's my version, it looks ok as if it would work so I'm happy with it and can now move on. I'll sort the tie offs and rope coils later and hope that they'll give me a more realistic look.
I now feel like I'm on the home straight with my RW and can now start making hints as to what needs to be put in my very large Xmas stocking.

Hello Everyone,
Thanks again for your likes and for those very kind comments.
As you may know this is my first build log. I decided to do one as over a few years I have followed other logs, enjoyed them, learned a great deal and were motivated by them so I thought that I should give something back to MSW members. I was concerned at first thinking that my attempt would fall short and that I may have taken on a project that was beyond my skill level. At first it felt like I was doing homework that was going to be critically viewed but as the build progressed I found that I actually enjoyed doing it and it soon became as much a part of the project as the build itself. To make it a little more interesting I've tried to add a little bit of who I am in my posts. It's those very nice comments that members post that makes all the extra work seem worthwhile, so thanks again.
No Zappto I don't intend to make a case for it, it would be much too large for me to display. I have quite a large bay window at the front of my house and it will easily sit there for all the world to see. It is north facing so doesn't get direct sunlight and I have a compressor which I use for blowing dust off so I can get away without a display case.
Michael, Yes I have put sails on a model, my last but one build was ALs Bounty but that rig was simplified, I think that it was intended for intermediate builders like I was. They came out ok, I thought that I might put them on the RW but when I saw the rigging set up and realized the enormity of the undertaking I chickened out.
Autumn is now here in the UK, for a few weeks nature displays itself in full colour, to capture some of this I've been to one of our many local parks with my camera, here's a few of the scenes from around its lake.
This is Birkenhead Park, it was built in 1847 and was the first known publicly funded community park in the world. Olmstead and Calvert Vaux the designers of New York Central Park visited the park in 1850 to see how it had been done and their design was heavily influenced by seeing Birkenhead.

Hi Mates,
Dave: so kind thanks !
Denis: Yes that basket needs some help – it’s on my list of fixes – happily that list is getting very short.
EJ: Thanks so much. One of the great advantages of MSW is learning from other builders. My skills since I joined could only have gotten better by also emulating other builder’s log ideas/techniques for this current effort as well as sage advice from member posts. I’m happy that my work on the sails might prove helpful to you as well.
Frank: as always (;-)
Went to see how the ship case wooden base is coming along –so far very happy with the look. It should be ready sometime next week. Then need to figure out how to “set” the ship.
============================
Just barely starting the foremast rigging with pins.
Thanks for the likes as well – so appreciated.

Hello Everyone,
I've made quite a bit of progress on the rigging. Once I'd stopped beating myself up about trying to get it something like historical accuracy I felt a whole lot more relaxed with it and started to enjoy the build again. I'll follow the supplied rigging plan as best I can but for the sections that I can't decipher I'll note how the Victory was done in that area and adapt the RWs to something similar. There's plenty of info on the Victory so I should be able to come up with a reasonable looking, workable rig.
One thing I've found is that there is a awful lot of rigging!!!
Some pictures of my efforts so far.
