Thank you Patrick, George, Cees and Anthony for your very kind words and thanks to all for clicking the like button.

Picturesque eh Patrick, well yeah, it livens it up a little    They did use paint and a lot of carvings all around that were also painted.  I kinda want to make it look like how these ships were painted in the mid-17th century.

Okay, I finished painting the starboard side, except for a few touchups that side done.  The greyed-down green looks pretty good on her.  I have to agree with Jan and Hans, it looks much better then before.  It even matches pretty close to the color chart I got from Ab Hooving.  Now on to the port side.

But before I turn the build dock around I wanted to make the galley chimney.  That'll be placed on the quarter deck against the port side bulwark, it's easier to reach it from the starboard side.  I first made a rough sketch with the measurements and proceeded to cut me some wood parts.  I used small pieces of basswood for the base and top with 1 mm birch plywood for the sides.  The swivel hood has also a base of basswood with 1/2 mm plywood for the sides.  The curved top is some shaved down pine to 1/4 mm.  The 1/2 mm plywood is just too stiff to make the curve.

These chimneys were removable and a water tight hatch closed the hole in the deck.  I'm just going to cement this thing to the deck and forego cutting the hole in the deck with the coamings and the hatch - - at this stage o the game.  It'll be painted with the cherry like color paint I used for the railing caps.  No fancy carvings on this thing, I'm cheap

So, this is as far as I got in the last few days.  I don't know If I can do work tomorrow though, it's gotten very cold here the last few days.  We'll see.

Gwen looked at it and liked it very much.  Of course she also looked for errors an found a fe spots I missed - - - on the underside of the railing caps.  Those are the tough-ups I mentioned.

I couldn't get the starboard door off and may have to use some stronger persuasion methods.  Oh well, in that case I'll most likely have to re-cement the hinges.

This shows the sketch with the parts I cut.  That little pyramid like thingy in the center of the base is for the top of the chimney where the sided are cemented to. There'll be another thin square piece of wood cemented to that for the cap to rotate on.

This shows the chimney base all cemented together with the rotatable cap in progress.  I left the cap base attached to the strip of wood for easy handling.  The top part of the cap is cemented only to it's base.  I'l' have to gently persuade it to lay down nicely on the sides.  I'm using CA gel glue for this.

    Cheers,

    Hi Guys,

Here it is not long continued, but I promise that I will continue to build the end of January at the William. I have the ship "Eagle of Lübeck 1565" restored in recent months for a customer. Now it's done, and I can devote myself to the William again. Bye now !

The pictures show the eagle after its completion.

Pete - thanks for your kind words.I had my reservations when I started this kit because I haven`t done much scratch work before, but I am really enjoying it. The closer I look at the castings in this kit the more I am impressed - the detail is better than any kit castings I have seen in other kits.Everybody has different build methods so each one should look a little different.

All the best to all this holiday season.

Started working on the cast metal bulkhead which is located under the quarter deck. The detail on the casting is pretty good, but I din`t want to just paint the windows.I got out my little mini drill & micro files & proceeded to open up the window openings. It was a little time consuming but not too difficult. Then I painted it with a medium brown with white window frames & gold trim.I thought it came out pretty good.

Also I want to thank every one for there looks & likes. Thanks also to the other RW builders - I refer to your build logs frequently. And a big thanks to Pirate Pete for his very helpful interpretive info. Also forgot to mention I used a product called Micro Kristal Klear to make the window panes.

She just gets better and better Mark,

I think you're short selling yourself on your skills Mark.

My suspicion is we are ALL a bit psycho here, you have to be to take little tiny pieces of wood, cut them into smaller pieces of wood and then glue them back together into new, more different tiny pieces of wood, all with the aid of a lighted magnifier! :D
Merry Xmas to you and your Admiral.

    Hi Mark,
I am following your build with great interest but I do get 'depressed'. My interpretive files were only ever intended as a guide to others and it is clearly obvious that your build and others such as Keith, Vince, etc, etc will be on a far higher plateau than mine.  For that fact I am actually delighted !!!  I wish I had constructed the window panes as you did. Ah well, next time. The point is often overlooked by many people but the Euromodel philosophy has always been that all builders of their products will be more guided by what is in the excellent drawings than what is in the kit itself. That intentional concept leads every builder into a quasi-scratch build rather than a straight kit build. No two builds will ever look the same ! Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of material in the kit but you just can't stop trying to go that one step further.

Hint: that white plastic resin ship's boat has actually proved to be the basis of an excellent product - took some work but the end result I think is great ! So hang on to it. I have almost finished constructing boats for their entire fleet.

Seasonal greetings to all that sail on our seas !

    Pete

Well folks... looks like she's done.  Here she is - the completed Santa Maria.  I'll edit and post more of the finished photos, then eventually her final port of call - I have to wait for the Admiral to clear off the Christmas decorations after the new year before the Santa Maria can rest in her final spot.

That magic milestone...  All planked, sanded, and one coat wipe-on poly.  I do have one small area that needs some work as it has a stain.  I don't think it's blood...

Lessons learned at this point.. many.

    1) I should go a bit wider than the 1/8" width even if it's out of scale.  Just for the eye appeal and the ease of working with the wood.

    2) Use a "harder" wood, like boxwood.  Pear deforms and dings easily.

    3) Definitely not pear for gap-filling.   Some areas went black, other areas look good.  Strange stuff.  I played with some scrap and it did the same thing.  Either that or not use the poly and sawdust in the gap filling and live with the glue and sawdust.

    4) A bit more care in the framing and fairing. I found some areas just weren't proper and had to fiddle with the frames before continuing.

Now to attend to the stern... which should be fun area and not as tedious.

Working on the main wales. The stock used on these is 7x2mm walnut. This is pretty hard stuff and requires a severe bend and curvature at the bow. I had to use a mechanical bender as well as soaking in ammonia solution and heating to make the bends without splitting the wood. Once the planks were fitted to the hull, holes were drilled and toothpicks inserted for simulating the trennels. After drying, everything will be painted.

Well,I managed to cut the top part of the bulkhead frame down the middle without breaking it . After gluing on some thin walnut strips I now have a breast beam. I am now gluing the main deck down - I made some wedges out of scrap to hold the deck down while the glue dries.

    Fantastic Nils!

I am almost positive the Pegasus is going to be my next build - following a brief hiatus to build the Artesania Latina Stage Coach.

And I guarantee your build will be close on tap for reference!

    Build log part 94

    COMPLETE

This post rounds up and completes the 29 months build duration of my HMS Pegasus in scale 1:64.

After putting on rudder chains, all bow-lines with their bridles to the squaresails, and appropriate rigging, the crew and some naval infantry men shipped in today to take over an interception and patrol mission in the northern Atlantic. Perhaps there will still be anchor buoys fitted to the lower fore-shrouds....

Its been much fun to do this build and especially it`s extensive rigging with all those tiny blocks, but now she is a nice sight with all those sails and pushing her wake, riding on starboard bow with braced sails. Putting on nearly all lines the actual ship had, it was a good lesson in rigging. Next  week I`ll put the final pictures in my Gallery.
Now its time to do the glass display case for dust protection.

Due to the modification of the 12 sheet Amati plan set, and building it from scratch (no kit) there are :  the large open port side, the half planked decks, the interior decks and the visible inside fitting out. The POB scratch built ship`s boat is an extra, and the access to the forecastle is by a seperate stair / ladderway .

Many thanks to all that visited this build along the ride from beginning on, and so many thanks to all comments and appreciations, and "likes", it has been a pleasure and was very encouraging for me

here are the first 10 of appr. 20 final pics......

    Enjoy the pictures
