Sjors got a reaction from Dimitris71 in HMS Agamemnon by Sjors - FINISHED - Caldercraft/Jotika - 1:64
The cannons for the lower gun deck are painted and on the carriages.
The 10 carriages and cannons in the middle have the eyebolts for the rigging.
The others around it will have no rigging.
They are hiding under the different decks like the upper deck and poop deck and maybe another deck
Next thing to do is place the cannons and then I can start the rigging......of the cannons !
Putting eyebolts in the bulwark and of we go

Thanks Mobbsie, Nick and Lawrence,
@ Mobbsie,
I have make 2 breech ropes.
At the end of this post you will see a picture of it.
@ Nick,
Thank you
And for you also the best wishes from the two of us !
@ Lawrence,
You have to wait a little longer for the rigged cannons.
I'm just playing with the breech ropes yet.
But thank you !
As I promised to Mobbsie and someone else who is yelling about pictures, I will post two.
It cost me the whole morning to make one breech rope,
I have to figure out what works for me.
I think I found it because the other one takes me about 1/2 hour
The light is not that good , I have to use artificial light.
Still it is in the middle of the day and it's just so grey outside that I need the lights.
But you can see what I have done so far.
The first picture are the two breech ropes, the second one is with her teeth outside the hull !

Cannons on the lower gun deck are done.
I have only make the blocks on the back not at the side.
You don't see them so for me it's no use to make them.
Also the clever cleats are on.
Now I can place the boat beams and place and planked the upper gun deck.

Also the ( see if it is correctly ) poop deck screen bulkhead.
And the kings planck is on the deck.
Next task....deck planking !

Upper gun deck is planked !
A strange thing but I have white parts in the wood.
I have try to remove it by sanding and then 2 layers of tung oil on it but it don't work.
So I let it this way.
When all the fiddly stuff ( gratings , ladders , steering wheel and betings and more of that funny stuff ) are in place I think you don't see it anymore.
Otherwise remember that in de early century's also the wood was not the same
( I don't know who told me that but I like it )
Between the planking I have make the false keel and frames of the 32 Ft Pinnace.....
Mobbsie told me that those Pinnace 's are kits of them own.
So for the price of one kit , you have 5 kits ( 4 Pinnace's )
Enough talking, time for pictures !

Yes, I'm still building....
Not to much because of other things that has to be done.
So it is time for a little update.
I have made the gratings, stairs, railings, timber heads, belfry and a few more of that little stuff.
I think it will come clear when you see the pictures.
I know that you will see dust but I have no time to clean
If I clean it, 10 seconds later you will see dust again......
Enough talking, time for pictures !

Thank you
Before I forget how it work s I have a little update......
The cannons on the port side are done.
The wales are also done.
They give me metal wales and it was not easy to work with because there is no space tp put clamps on but oke, they are there.
Still not cleaned the deck so no pictures of that yet.......

Cannons are done on the upper gun deck.
Stairs are also done and the railings .
I really need a cleaning person
Nope, not Anja I have to do it by myself.
Maybe a good idea to do it before I take pictures ?
Maybe something for the next time ?????
Or I have to use a camera with has no High definition ...........
Oh well.....

Sjors reacted to riverboat in Alert by riverboat - FINISHED - Krick - 1/25th scale
Up Date time again....... I think I left off showing the water pumps installed, well I uninstalled them. I think that's going to be one of the last items I will install along with the railing posts with the rope. I'm pretty sure they'll be a nusance when the rigging starts if installed now,
Most of the work done up to this time has been on the rest of the deck pc's. I've installed the rear railings, which I had to improvise on,
cleats ,oar locks, channels, and the gun rigging. The following pictures will show whats been done. Thanks again for looking in!!
Frank
we'll start with the floats.I shaped them out of some basswood so they were pretty easy to form , these will also be attached later .
These are Chucks cleats. He made some 12mm for me. They came out real nice , If anyone needs some wood cleats try his out, you wont be dissapointed.
This picture shows the start of the rear rails. There was some bending involved on these and unfortu nately one of them snaped on the end so I could'nt use them The brass was2mm , you'd think they would give you a little longer pc. of brass knowing they might snap with the twisting they need, but no way. The only brass rod I had was 1.5 mm , but it worked out ok. OH yeah!, not only did the brass rod snap, the pc's that the ends set into also got messed up so, I made a basic pc. to set the ends into.As it turned out I liked the way it looks better than the way itwas supposed to.
I just want to show this picture , because it shows the rear doors on the cabin. I was thinking a bout some figures for this build and I'm thinking this cabin looks small for this scale. A man at about 5'7"
woiuld be approx. 2.6 inches at 1/25th scale. This cabin is just1 inch tall !!! How could this person get thru the Door???? any comments??
The following pictures are of the oar lock and channells installed and the rigging of the cannon, also the fore mast eye bolts installed.
Thanks again!!!

Sjors reacted to trippwj in Emma C Berry by trippwj - Model Shipways - Scale 1:32
Not much of an update, but have not been totally slacking!
The deck beams have all been installed, as well as the covering board. With additional helpers here, we have done some preliminary work on the building slip (the 2 young ones, 8 & 10, think it is fun to be able to spread glue and sprinkle cleaned beach sand for the base).
Next step is to start planking the hull (and adding details to the building slip).

Sjors reacted to rafine in Frigate Essex by Rafine - FINISHED - Model Shipways - Kitbashed
The anchors have been made and mounted. That leaves only the lantern ( I've pretty much decided not to do another boat).
The anchors and their stocks were all made from boxwood strip, with the anchors painted black and the stocks finished with Wipe-on Poly. The bands on the stocks are black painted paper. The bouys were shaped from walnut dowel.
I found a Caldercraft lantern that hopefully will be suitable, and I am awaiting it's arrival from Cornwall Model Boats.

Hello All, Thanks for the comments and Likes, as always very much appreciated.
Thanks for the advice, I have tried CA, a few stuck. I have brought a 90 second epoxy. Ill see how that goes, I have added a rigged cannon to the rear starboard side. It can only get better,

Sjors reacted to popeye the sailor in RMS Titanic by popeye the sailor - Academy - PLASTIC - 1/400 scale
more of the structures were cemented on the bridge deck
there are a few small features that still need to be added. I saw this picture and had to take a second look......the center portion looks to be unpainted. it has been painted with the A&M sand......it's just the angle.
I kept thinking about those railings.......how was I going to make them look better?
these seem to be the only real problem with the kit. it's a mixture of flash and mal-tooling of the molds.
I decided that I would try and save the frame work and go from there.
the bow railings came out pretty good........some fine tuning will be needed.
the stern railings gave me some fits though.......I will need to do a bit more to make them right.
the stanchions are very small......too small to drill. I may try to use thread of thin wire to restring them. I need to do four rows.......but if I get three, it may just pass muster........depending how much grief they give me.

I though I had shown the stripped decks to you.....varying degrees of paint removal. it might not be all bad......may tend to shadow here and there, when they are repainted. I did show you these though
the paint that I decided on is called U.S. Army/Marines sand......it's lighter and has a bit of a yellow tint to it.
these are the parts you haven't seen. these came out with varied success as well, but I think it will cover nicely
I began to paint and assemble the bridge deck.....hope to have more for tomorrow.

Sjors reacted to Beef Wellington in HMS Snake by Beef Wellington - FINISHED - Caldercraft - Scale 1: 64 - First wooden ship build
I'm finally back at it. Very little time for anything for some time, but the break from Snake has brought me back more energized than ever to get her finished. I'll probably continue to provide step by step photo updates on the rigging as reminders for me and maybe something helpful to others.
Not much, but evidence of progress. Foretopmast stay completed and belayed, and boomkins installed...

Oh dear! I'm just wandering what I've let myself in for. A moments lunacy led me to buy this thinking a larger scale would be better to work on for a newbie. I read the size but really, it is not until you see it in position like those last shots that you really understand the size of her. Mobbsie, you have my admiration for your work and speed. I think I have just written off the next ten years of my life outside work! I shall do a build log as this one has done two things, inspired me and has loads of helpful tips and suggestions from members which I have no doubt I will need by the bucket load. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, my first build too. Idiot certainly, foolish probably but I like a challenge, a real challenge!
Well done again and I hope that I can pick a couple of things up from all the good members out there. One question I already have is what did you use for the hammock nets? They look fantastic.
All the best
