Only me,
More pics
DB 250 Wood Lathe
Circular Saw
Micro Shaper ( Router )
I also have a 4 Jaw Chuck, Drill Chuck for the DB250, 10 piece router set, Spare sanding discs and spare Jig saw blades and finally a replacement Lathe bed for the DB250 so that I can extend it's length.
Sjors is going to bring me a set of Proxxon wood chisel's when he comes over, two things to look forward to there, Anja & Sjors and chisels.
All I have to do now is to learn how to use them.

Hi Guys,
Thank you all for your very kind congrats and comments, they really are appreciated. I would like to reiterate that this is really a very small museum, I would say that in most cases it would probably fit into a double garage. I think they would have accepted a picture in a glass case to be honest.
Mort, Matti, The museum doesn't open until the 1st May, I will get some pics then and post up.
I'm afraid a Knighthood is a little way off just yet, I'm more like a surf or squire which is a Knights servant, very lowly.
I apologise for not posting my latest pics sooner but I have been a little distracted, were still in the process of refurbing the kitchen and I have had a side project going on as well. I am getting a few new toys from Proxxon and was in dire need of some extra space. My admiral (Christine) has allowed me to make space in the loft to house them, so I have been clearing the loft and fitting a work bench, fitting the bench wasn't a problem but boy do we ever hoard a load of rubbish.
Jerry, I hope the following pictures help you to work out the spacing for your snaking, the method I used was to start the first knot with a clove hitch, from then on I took a short piece of thread and tying a simple overhand knot around the Preventer Stay ensuring the snake line was inside the loop pulled tight at the desired spacing, using the gauge which I had made, on completion and being satisfied that the spacing was even and that there was no distortion I just put a minute spot of glue on the knot and when dry trimmed of the loose ends. Hope that helps mate.
Some progress pics
Main Stay, Gauge is attached to the stays
Loose ends still need to be trimmed off
All trimmed and finished
Trying to get the tension right on the Crowsfeet so the stays are not distorted
Completed Crowsfeet, I found it extremely difficult to eliminate distortion on the stays, this is the best I could manage.
So that's it for now I'm afraid, progress has been slow and I'm currently working on the fore topmast and top gallant
I thank you again for your very kind words

Hi Martin,
I'll say it again mate, open a build log, that way we can all help if you need it, lets face it we all need a little help and encouragement from time to time, we may even be able to prevent you from making that fatal mistake.
Wood can be a very forgiving medium and it's a very rare case where a mistake cannot be rectified, as the builder we may not see how but stick on the forum and you will receive a bucket load of help, but to do that you need a log.

I can only agree with all previous comments mate, it's just a great shame that the cases very often cost almost as much as the ship, I know that when the time comes for my Aggie the total price is going to be pushing £1,000, the only good thing about it is there is time between the two, gotta be done though.
Pinnace is looking the part, well done mate.

I think back to all the things my admiral and I did together, when we owned our house....those are fond memories. cripes I remember the all-nighters I pulled..........fueled by beer. the admiral would down out on me around midnight.....but I didn't mind. we did the hard stuff during the day......and painting all night! we enjoyed it! I hate being a renter........so much I want to do, but the place is not mine to do all this. we hope to get our own place one of these days.....we were happier that way we did things the way we wanted them to be, and we reveled in our accomplishments.
if we ever did what we wanted to do.............she is now disabled..........I would more or less be on my own, but I would be happy.......I'd be doing it for her.......even though I'm not the spring chicken I used to be take pride, my friend...........and now your back to your leisure, and back where you love to be............it's a wonderful feeling though......isn't it?

Hello Mobbsie,
Very impressive work. So many beautiful details, really amazing!
I am still at the very early stages of my Agamemnon. Not sure, whether I will be able to complete that ship, but my attitude is:" The way is the goal"
Happy modelling,
Martin

Hello Mobbsie,
Thank you very much for your positive encouragement. Of course I will do my best, but sometimes I have that fear that I might get stuck somwhere and the mistake cannot be corrected. I have not reached such a point yet, but who knows...But you are right. It is probably counterproductive to indulge oneself in these thoughts.
Best wishes,
Martin

Martin,
When working in wood, virtually ALL mistakes can be corrected. Not a happy prospect, to be sure, but true. However, sometimes it takes skill and effort beyond the basic modeler (as well as extra pieces-parts). BUT...this is how you learn. As I tell people when I am demonstrating ship modeling, I have not made a model yet where I have not needed to pull it apart at some point. In my younger days, I would work around it and would settle for 'whatever'. Now I endeavour to fix it, before the error compounds.
Mobbsie is correct. Post your build here and if there aer any issues you will get plenty of knowledgable feedback.

I don't understand when you say you don't know if you'll finish your Aggie or not, yes she is a big ship, yes she is an advanced build and yes she can be difficult at times but isn't that the reason we build these ships.
We all make a promise when we start a new project which is to "Do the best we can to do the best we can". We all of us make mistakes and we correct them, not one builder no matter who he/she is can say they haven't, it's just a matter of how we deal with it.
You will finish your Aggie and it will be to the best of your ability, you will be pleased with the result because you would have done your best and that's all any of us can do, so go on and get stuck in and "Do the best you can to do the best you can".

You've got to drill those windows out, I cant believe they still make moldings like that, it would add so much more to the finish.

The new case was worth every penny (or whatever you folks use for legal tender) you invested. The black base is a great idea.
Now ---- as for Viking funerals.......I'll have none of it! Your Cutty Sark is a proud ship that has stood the test of time. Some respect, PLEASE!

Thanks Augie, Mark, Bob, Sherry and Mike, and once again to all the "likes".
Even though it has been a long weekend here this weekend, I'm afraid I didn't get too much time in the shipyard. I did however, get to collect my new case for Victory. Even though I haven't quite finished her, I wanted to get her under a cover to protect her from damage and keep the dust off while I finish off the last few bits and pieces.
I know I could probably have made a case for a fraction of the price I paid for this (which was a lot!), but I wanted a "frameless" look for this model, so had it professionally made by a local plastics firm (Plastic Creations in Fyshwick for the local Canberrans - highly recommended). I also decided that rather than use a wood base, I would continue the theme and had a black perspex base made at the same time, with a channel routed in it to accept the "box". The idea of the black base (which is also partially reflective) was to tie in the black and yellow colours of the ship. I like the effect.
I took a few pictures of it this afternoon, but it was getting a bit dark. I've shown a couple of pictures here, but they don't really do it justice.
Here's one with only what's left of the daylight:
And here is one with the overhead downlights on.
The table that it sits on I originally made to display my Cutty Sark model. I think the timber is Yellow Stringy Bark if memory serves me correctly.
While I had the camera out, I thought I may as well take a picture of the Cutty Sark that has sat proudly in this position (just inside the front door) for many years until usurped by Victory. This was a Billings kit and was my first serious foray into wooden ship building. As such, it is fairly basic - if only I knew then what I know now! The case that this one is in I made myself. It has survived four house moves, including from one side of the country to the other and back again. The only damage it received was to the rigging on one move, which I then replaced and did a better job on. Even so, when I look at that rigging compared to Victory, it seems ever so basic. It is now in the lounge room as a "temporary" measure until we figure out what to do with it. A "Viking Funeral" is still on the cards..........
You can see in the reflection of this photo my wife's collection of stuffed animals - they at least are an appreciative audience!
Ship's Boats continued:
With the limited time I did manage in the shipyard this weekend, I did manage to paint the internal hull of the Pinnace, fit the Risers for the thwarts, and fit the previously made footling.
I'm now making up some gratings to fit, using 1/32" pear stock that Jeff Hayes at Hobbymill made up for me some time ago. It's the same stuff that I used on the Launch. Hopefully I'll get that installed next weekend and then be ready to paint the exterior of the hull before moving on to the fittings.
