Isn't this typical?  You ask about something and it almost always leads to something else.

Thank you for your answers to my question.  I tried the heating thing and it did not work.  I do not think I got it hot enough in the oven or in the hot water because it still snapped. To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what these castings are made of, and if it contains any lead I really do not want to raise the temperature to the melting point.  So I may have wimped out in getting enough heat on the castings to be able to bend them.   What I still do not understand is how the castings (railing posts) got bent in the first place without breaking.  I guess it really doesn't matter because the fact is they are bent.

That said, the suggestion to make resin copies intrigues me and seems to be a great solution.  I found the resin materials are available from the hobby store or on-line.  What do you use to make the mold, and are there any other tricks one should know if attempting this?  Is there a how to on this process somewhere?

    Thanks again.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to bend cast metal parts?

Whenever I have tried in the past to either bend them or straighten them I managed to break them and then had to make substitutes, usually out of wood because I am much more comfortable working with wood than metal.

I hope I am using the correct terminology when I say cast metal.  I am referring to the white metal parts supplied in most kits that usually have a little bit of flashing on them and are quite brittle.

    Thanks in advance.

This is about as cheap as you can get.  You can use it with the model upside down or right side up.

    Bob,
Be patient, the masking/painting will take time. Be especially careful with the windows, it is easy to get glue on them, so use a minimum amount of glue and if possible use a single sheet of plastic for windows that are contiguous.

I hope you will enjoy building it, I did. I do not usually keep the models I build but this is the exception.  It resides in an acrylic display case on a shelf I installed specifically for it above my computer desk.

A very nice model 1:24 scale about 15" long.  Do not attempt this kit unless you are comfortable doing a lot of painting.  Every single piece of this model has to be painted and some painted two or three times.  Other than that, a relatively easy build.

Most models don’t include sails. For me the reason is simple: this is a model, I don’t want cloth hiding and covering all the detailed work I did on the model and on the rigging. I included every line Pegasus would have, I added some lines to Lady Nelson per my reference book on cutters because the plans are sparse, so far as I know Cheerful includes all her rigging, etc.. I never considered attaching cloth to any of them, why conceal my work.  In this case I do have contemporary models on my side, they don’t include sails, I imagine for the same reason.

    Bob,
If I were to build it again I would apply the clear windows in each area as a continuous sheet rather than individual panes. I hope that makes sense to you.
It should result in a much neater appearance. I also used Holloway House Quick Shine on the window panes to prevent fogging from the super glue I used.
I'm confident you will enjoy the build.

I'm not sure if there was a parts list.  I would  go to the OCCRE web site  San Francisco cable car. OcCre model tramways and use the contact button. They have been very responsive to my questions in the past.

It is an excellent model, I hope you will enjoy it.
