Well I see I'm going to have to be careful with this build.  There are too many people who have seen and/or been on her.  Well, at least when I get confused there will be people who can hopefully answer my questions.

Dave, Up next is the SS Mariefred a little passenger boat, possibly a ferry but nothing says so, that operated between Stockholm and Mariefred in Sweden.

Hi Ken.  Thanks for the offer.  We used to vacation in Cambria each year, until we got too old to make the drive.  We always stopped at Morro Bay on the way.  Wish I had known you back then it would have been nice to get together.

Thanks Popeye and I still have window film left, Thanks.
Thanks Lawrence, They were fun to build except, as always, during a build I get thinking of the next build and I have to force myself to finish this first.
My next build will be the SS Mariefred.  I got good drawings from the museum.  I should apologize to them.  The first set of drawings were just off the web and not from the museum that holds the drawings.
Hope to see you all soon at the new build.

Thanks John, it should be a fun build.  And if I run into trouble there seems to be a lot of people here that are familiar with her.

    Mariefred
The coal-fired steamship Mariefred was built in 1903 for the trade-Enhörna Stockholm-Mariefred. She has sailed under the same name and with the same steam engine ever since.  The vessel has been owned by the same shipping company, Gripsholms-Mariefred Ångfartygs AB since 1905. All this makes Mariefred one of the worldwide unique ships and an indispensable part of Sweden's cultural heritage!
Built at South wharf in Stockholm in 1903. Length 32.84 m, width 6.33 m. Coal-fired steam boiler.  Speed 10 knots.  230 passengers.

captainbob reacted to tartane in Chebeque by tartane - FINISHED - 1:87 (HO) scale - building techniques of three ships
In the last posting I showed the construction I used by replacing the railing supports. By some models the railing is also planked at the inner side. In that case the supports are invisible and are not necessary to build in the model. Chebeque has both types of railing as can be seen on the picture.
This ship has also unsusual decks, owing to the construction of the hull. The main deck has on port and starboard an extra deck in order to get a horizontal place for the cannons. These decks have planks which are not attached to each other. There are open spaces between them. This means that under these decks are hollow spaces which allows overcoming water to stream away to scuppers in the side of the hull. On the pictures is to be seen that the extra decks have planks which stand square, because of this reason,  to the length of the ship. The upper deck on the stern is also of an unsual construction. The deck is partly open and partly provided with gratings. The reason for it is still a mystery. I believe that overcoming waves and rain could leave very quickly the decks, otherwise it would stream on the main deck. Unfortunally these gratings are not drawn in the correct way on plans of the chebeque. Mostly is depicted that the whole upper deck was one large grating from port to starbord. This is wrong, because the deck would be very weak and heavy. On the few existing original drawings of cebebes you will never see one large grating.
Galeotta is also planked at the innerside of the railing.
    Tartane has visible supports.
This is the last posting I do to explain how I made the hulls of those three beautiful ships.
If there are any questions about these ships , please ask me.
Thanks for your interest, and please forgive my poor English.

    Hi everyone

Once again, many thanks for all of your comments and Likes!

I've added some more detail to the two decks of Shadow's engine room.  I'm hoping that with the addition of some cupboards, pipes, etc, that it'd look reasonably passable, even though the scale is so tiny.  Bucket loads more to go, though.

I hope you enjoy the photos.

    Have a great weekend!

    Cheers

Thank you Roger.  I just realized from looking at one of the drawings that she is built of metal.  I had just opened this to correct my earlier statement.  Be that as it may, I am going to build her of wood.
