  1. Made some clamps on the masts, made the gun port hatches, varnished the ship. Made a flagpole. There are alot of different models with different solutions or interpretations of what the ship used to look like. I have a question: I dont know what these parts are called but they are used to belay heavy lines. Something like a bollard. I made a picture to show what i mean. I've seen different versions on diffrent models and on the half moon replica from Albany. If someone could tell me what to call these parts, i know im showing only the on-deck part of it, they run belowdeck and are a structural part of ht e ships construction. So if someone could tell me what part 1 and 2 are called it would be really helpfull for my "research". Of course i will be eternally grateful. Part one is connected with a big block to the line(s) that are connected the yards i believe. Part two is located in front of the main mast.
  2. What a fun build, original. When are you going to work on the rigging of your half moon build by the way? Or did i miss something, because i'm anxious to see how you would do that. Your log just is on pause? Have fun building anyway will follow this project.
  3. Hello, my comliments. We want more! hehe. Your work is inspirational for my own build. Not to be satisfied with flawed parts and bad finish. Hjalmar
  4. Almost all the major deck fittings are done. Only need to make a flagpole. Then small details need to be done. But now i have to decide what to do, stain it or not. The wood used for the decks is apple and the rest of the wood mostly is pear. Not sure if staining will make it look better.
  5. Wow very nice. your style and skill is so great. Btw what type of wood did u use for your ships boat? is it limewood? lindehout. I know its a few posts back but still like to know hehe.
  6. Yes but i didnt really make the interior of the ship, so the doors are convenient for me, but there probably werent any doors in there.
  7. Hello i also got the DB250, the limitations are the centre distance of 250mm (25cm) and the fact you can only insert 2-4-6-8 and 10 mm round wood in it. You need the 4 claw chuck to insert small diameter round wood of another diameter (1-3-5-7-9 mm) or use tape or something to extend the diameter. If your work is bigger you have a few claw plates that are good enough. But turning small diameters, your work does tend to break. But its really small and will not take up your entire workplace. If you have alot of room i'd go for a complete secondhand (metal) lathe, but the db 250 is really nice if you can accept its limitations.
  8. Hello Jan, You are right. I just translated it wrong. Text was copied from a site. It is a yacht, but was also called vlieboot in dutch, because the bottom is abit flat.
  9. Made capstan and mast + spreaders + top. Still have to add some blocks that prevent the topmast from sliding down. These blocks rest on the spreaders. The capstan still needs a blocker.
  10. Piet and also Sawdusdave i've seen your builds they're both great. I'm going to make alot of details indeed, hope it works out well. I'm doing the standing rigging. No sails but all the other rigging i mean. Hope ill have something nice to show soon.
  11. Thanks for the kind replies. Does anyone perhaps have a tip for me how to remove UHU Hart glue from wood. I can only think of carefully sanding. The glue contains methylacetate and n-butylacetate i believe. The problem with sanding the little boat is its very fragile. But a solvent and wiping it off may cause joints to become weak too. Anyway, i hope ill hav some progress to show soon. I just got a mini lathe for my birthday so i can turn wood now. Gonna make a capstan first i think, plenty of examples on this forum i've already seen.
  12. So i made a more suitable boat. The gluestains are abit of a problem though on the outside of the model i made. I used UHU Hart glue for wood.
  13. Hello my name is Hjalmar i'm 30 years old and I come from Amsterdam. I havent introduced myself on the forum section for making introductions, I hope noone minds. I'm building a model from drawings i got from a dutch modelling site. The scale is 1:30 and i'm using pear and apple wood mostly. It's a bulkhead structure planked and the sides have veneer second planking. The topside planks are about 2 mm pear. The first planking layer is limewood. I'm using a phone camera so i hope the resolution is good enough.
  14. Personally i like when some planks are a different shade, seems realistic too. Your model looks great in my opinion.
