  1. Hello Glenn. I'm not rubbing it in but....a chuck??? Not necessary as an addition with a drill press since it comes with it. I guesss it's to each his own. Anyway i wish you much success with your lathe. And maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. Just kidding you and having fun and I didn't even have a drink. By the way I ordered a Viking Ship kit by Amati so I guess that's my next build. Take care, Jerry
  2. Hello Glenn. Good luck with your new lathe...I wish you many happy years using it. Now you have the makings of a profesional shop. LOL...Later, Jerry
  3. Hello Denis (Popeye).. You are so right, the earlybird does get the best seat. So i'm offering you a reserved seat...I think, but I'm not positive, that I might make Amati's Viking ship my next project. I'll know more in a day or two. In the meanwhile I need to encourage my admiral to get back to work. Hope your weekend is going well. Best, Jerry
  4. Popeye.. Nice to know your name...Best toyou, Denis.. Jerry
  5. Hello Lawrence.. Many thanks for your post and congratulations...I sincerely appreciate the thoughts from a good friend as you. Building the Half Moon seemed to go quickly and I think having finished the Victory right before starting the Half Moon gave me the experience to expidite the HM build. It was real good to hear from David as I was a bit concerned having not heard from him for some time. I'm happy that the weather has turned for you and that Bernie and you can enjoy it. So, besides coaching my admiral I'm looking around for my next build. At this time I have not seen anything that interests me. I certainly agree with you that MSW fosters some wonderful friendships, a fantastic benefit of being a member. Keep up your good work on Annie; I'm enjoying watching your build of her. Best, Jerry
  6. Hello Popeye...You are too kind. The only reason you haven't finished your build is you spend a lot of time helping others on this web site. No matter what the build you are there to offer help. I'm sure that the other model builders feel just as I do. Because of some health problems I felt that I would make the Half Moon my last build and concentrate teaching my admiral how to be invoved in model ship building. I sad the same thing after building Victory. So it looks like I'll be looking around for another challange and hopefully will keep contact with you and the other wonderful friends I have made here. I hope you have a terrific weekend. Best, Jerry
  7. Hello Robert.. I guess I have neglected your build site and for that I apologize. I became so engrossed in my own build that I selfishly didn't exploe other builds. From what I see you certainly know what you are doing and before long you will have a beautiful trophy at your home. Keep up the very good detailed work and try and have some fun. Your log is very well constructed and will help many others in the future. Best to you, Jerry
  8. Tom, By the way, I just wanted to mention that your build log is exceptional; it is so detailed and photo provided. I think it's one of the finest build logs i have seen. Also, please remember that my Half Moon is from a Corel kit and not Billings. Jerry
  9. Hello Tom. Thank you so much for stopping by and for your nice thoughts. I browsed through your Constitution log and from what I could see, I know you'll have absolutely no trouble with the Half Moon whenever you get to it. Please remember that if you ever have a question I will be happy to respond. Thanks again for the visit, Best, Jerry
  10. Hello J, After your suggestion of the 18th Century Longboat I was quick to review your log. I am so impressed! What a fantastic job. If I decide to try this build i don't think I would be able to follow in your footsteps. I love the entire build. Something to think about but it is along the lines of what I was although thinking about. How nice, J. Best, Jerry
  11. Good morning J and thanks for your compliment and suggestion. I will check out the 18th century Longboat as you suggested. And good luck with the Penguins tonight. You know who I'm rooting for. LOL Jerry
  12. Thankk you very much, Robert. It was a lot of fun. Best, Jerry
  13. David.. It's the white foam folder background that did the trick with my telephone camera. There will be no case for Half Moon. i thought exactly as you..Easy to keep clean...a few dust offs a month should do it. Best of luck with the Diana. Jerry
  14. Hello Dimitris... I finally had a chance to get back to your log after all this time. I have been neglectful for not cheking in earlier but am very pleasantly surprised with your work. You are doing a hell of a job for a second timer. I believe you will end up with a terrific model and will be one proud Greek when it's finished. Keep up the great work; Your phile... Jerry
  15. Good evening, Glenn..No idea whatsoever. I think somethng like a launch. Best, Jerry
  16. Hello Dimitris.. many thaks from your visit and comments. Please keep in touch, okay? Best to you phile.. Jerry
  17. Hello to all my model builder friends who have put up with me for a pretty long time...... Well, you won't have to put up with me any longer as far as the Half Moon build is concerned. I am very happy, indeed, to say that my Half Moon is sitting on its designated shelf in the entry way of our home across the straights from the Cutty Sark. At this time I wish to thank all my fellow members of NRG's MSW for their kind patience, assistance and indulgance during the build of this model. I started the construction on December 12th and happily finished on March 14th so as you can see this build was not a long one but i assure you without the help of many like J, Lawrence, David, Glenn, Popeye, and others, who I hope will forgive me for not mentioning their names, would have taken much longer to complete. Here are some photos of the finished model on a plain cradle (which will be finished one of these days). So, besides helping the Admiral with her Bounty, I will start scouring the halls of model ships to determine what will be next. Again, many, many thanks to you all. Best, Jerry
  18. Hello David.. So good to hear from you. I asked Lawrence today if he had heard from you and when he replied in the negative I really began to worry that you're okay. I hope that's the case. As usual your cleverness preceeds you and your comments above are really funny. I read your post to Charlene and she laughed loudly for a good while. She said to thank you for your good wishes and that she'll trynot to disappoint you with her build. I was going to say Bounty instead of build but it didn;t sound right. I guess I'll be looking for another build since I'll need something to do during the day. I'll be helping the Admiral from time to time but she can only give the hobby sporadic time. It's good to know that you're back on track with Caroline and I look forward to see what you do with Diana. (Boy,that sounds very chauvinistic.) Best to you, Jerry
  19. Hello Glenn... Your rudder looks familiar; I wonder why? Nice going... Please look for my PM. Thanks, Jerry
  20. Good morning, J and Glenn. Thank you both for your visits. Yep, Today should be the final day on Half Moon except for the base (stand) which I'm thinking about. I think I'm going to make a timber pile cradle on a nice piece of wood of some kind; And I'm not sure if I'm going to place the boat in a display case. It has no sails and it's small enough that an occassional pressure dusting will probably be sufficient. I'm not sure yet. So now after a few months of a fun build a I need to come up with another model. Maybe it won't be an historical boat but perhgaps something from the close past. I'm anxious to vary the build to incorporate different skills to learn. I really don't know but I'm thinking about it. Of course I stil have to "coach" the admiral. Anyway, final pictures will be posted in a day or so. Take care everyone and best .. Jerry
  21. Hello again, Everyone... I'm happy to say that the anchors have been constructed and mounted to the hull. I decided to be truly nautical and used bowline knots to secure the anchors to their lines. Tomorrow I hope to attach the flags and pennants to their respective halyards. My last task ( a very happy one) will take a few photos of the completed model and try and take a short break. Of course the Admiral is lurking in the shadows so I'm sure she will need me from time to time to help her with her Bounty. I think the timing couldn't have been better. Here are some additional photos of today's work. Best, Jerry
  22. Good morning everyone.. Just a quick entry to attach a photo of the midship coils which completes the coiling process. There will be more to follow to show the anchors and flags. Have a great day everyone and best, Jerry
  23. Thanks, Popeye.. You are indeed right about that. I finished all the coils and will mount the anchors and flags tomorrow and the next day which should complete this Half Moon. Best to you. Jerry
  24. It doesn't matter, Glenn...You compensated well. Real nice work on the deck planking; I think it's something special to be able to work two builds at the same time. Jerry
