Hi Robin, I have the same difficulty with these bulkheads. For the stern the planking runs all the way to the keel, so for bulkheads 13 and 14 the measured length includes the area to the keel. For bulkheads 15 and 16 these only have a few planks running from bulkhead 14. Therefore I just use the plank width measured at bulkhead 14. You may need a stealer in this area. For the bow, the 1st bulkhead is usually similar to number 2. I think of it as part of a sphere with bulkhead 1 at 90 degrees to bulkhead 2. Hope that helps! good luck

Good progress Robin. Ratlines are time consuming. Watered down PVA glue is fine for securing the ratlines. I like to get them all square and evenly spaced before committing to glue. Just protect your deck from any splashes!

Sorry to hear about your broken fingers, hope you are on the mend. You are on the right track using an electric drill/screwdriver to help shape the yards. Just take your time avoiding putting too much pressure on the yard arm nearest the screwdriver chuck. Once you get the taper close to where you want it, just proceed by hand using sandpaper.

Really taking shape now, Robin. We have all been there with snapped drill bits. It’s fun digging them out 😡 The fine bits cannot take a lot of lateral pressure. Apparently HSS bits are stronger than the tungsten carbide ones, although the former are more expensive. You should be able to source suitably sized walnut dowel to replace the stock you used on the pumps.In the UK Cornwall Model Boat stocks various sizes. I am sure you will find somewhere closer to home.

Andrew, Learning a lot from your build. Those really are mighty tight curves, hope you have enough spare planks to complete. Would be a shame to hide the excellent job you have done with the planking under a coat of paint.

Thanks Andrew, Anything that makes planking easier is an asset! I am a bit of a sucker for tools, sometime I forget it is the model that is more important. If you are anything like me you will have a drawer (or 2) of little/unused tools.

Looking good Andrew. Interested in your use of the proportional dividers. How well do the proportional dividers handle the curve of the hull? Or can you only use them on relatively flat areas?

Might be known as methylated spirits, or even just meths. Hardware stores and even amazon will sell it. I use isopropyl alcohol rubbing alcohol. It works well on PVA but can strip acrylic paint!

Hi Robin, I think you have a bit more sanding to do, fun eh? Run your finger down the hull, if it feels a bump, catch or a depression you need to fix it, otherwise the second planking will show every imperfection.
