I am big on the suggestion of  "the next one".   I hardly ever change anything drastic........for fear that it might distort the wood or something.  for first time modelers......I tend to suggest finishing the model the way it is.    then,  after doing a few more builds,  look at the first one they did.   this is a good barometer,  for showing you,  how much you have learned.   this cut out the agravation for the modeler,  and prevents wanting to give up.   I do apologize,   but I find it sad to see folks back tracking on their builds.   since you have chosen to correct it........I hope your redo works well for you.

you got that right........once the rigging begins to get thick, it's hard to see what's new.

It is a piece of tape on the rudder, well spotted. The rudder is hung on pin and pintol hinges which means that it falls off when bumped from below. Something which happens pretty regularly when moving the model around to get at all those hard to reach places where knots have to be tied.

I keep forgetting to remove it when taking photos.

    Cheers,

Last month a friend gave me some wood that had been left over from a boat kit. He had picked up the wood at a yard sale for ten cents for the whole batch.  Among this wood was a bundle of 0.5 X 5.0 X 500 mm strips.  The grain went all over the place but I decided to see if I could use it.  I had allowed 0.063” for the frames and 0.032” for the planking so if I laminated three layers of wood for the frame and double planked with this same wood over that, after sanding it should be close.

So here is my start.  I cut enough pieces for the frames 2.5” long and then split them in thirds.  I threw away about 1/4 of these pieces, because the wood split when I was cutting.  (This is the kind of wood that drove me to the dark side.)  After soaking in water I bent them onto the strongback  and glued between the layers. After drying the frames I have made so far seem to be good.
More later as the build goes on.

if I didn't over do the initial build,  there wouldn't have been a dual build.  I hope the subject overrides the fact that it will be a multi build........Ijust hope it works as well in wood,  as it does in my mind

I would have left well enough alone, but I had nothing to attach the upper shroud deadeyes too. Instructions failed to mention needing to drill holes in my crow's nests first. I attempted drilling the holes with them in place, but even though the metal is soft, I could not get it done without causing breakage to the masts. So, in order to drill the holes properly I need to remove the crows nests. Problem...that means the lower shrouds have to come down as they run through the nests.
It is not the end of the world, I bought better rope, ordered a serving machine...so I believe that will make doing the shrouds easier this time, and I enjoy the rat lines anyway. It is only setting me back about 3 weeks....oh well, the longboat is keeping me busy in the meantime

in the dictionary, they are explained as such:

rabbit ears:  antennas.......the apitomy of man to get reception.  sometimes enhanced by the use of tin foil, or by the touch of a younger sibling to groung out the rods,  to boost the reception.
