that's the beauty of this large scale........the fittings can be created with such detail.......and as a working, movable part! superbly done!

Thanks Michael. It does take some time, but it helps to be retired. However, with a real boat, a model ship, raquet sports, grandkids, etc. there is never enough time. But it's better and more fun than sitting in a rocking chair. Don't worry that you've a long way to go. You know better than most that doing something well is a worthy goal. Cheers, Gil

If at first you don't succeed... try, try, try......try.....try............**** it, go and get drunk.
Isn't that how it goes?
Lessons learned are still progress.. even though it may not feel like it.

popeye the sailor reacted to Jim Lad in Hr. Ms. O 19 1938 by Piet - FINISHED - scale 1:50 - submarine of the Royal Navy Netherlands in service 1939 - 1945
Piet,
Thank you for your description of your father's career in the Royal Dutch Navy and of his sad loss. Our own HMAS Perth fought in that same battle and survived, but was sunk very soon afterwards in the battle of the Sunda Strait. Australia were proud to have the Dutch submarine fleet based at Fremantle in Western Australia during the war.
I'll be looking forward to your build log of this interesting ship.

popeye the sailor got a reaction from Cap'n Rat Fink in Maine Lobster Boat by popeye the sailor - FINISHED - Midwest Products
I have made some progress off and on during the last couple of days. the starboard side window is in place now.
then ........I did it. I'm not totally pleased with what I did....I fear that I made the boat look like crap. I started out by adding some weathering to the sorting table.
....and then it sort of fanned out over the entire boat........
the extra trap was added, along with a couple more rope coils. what I'm using here is the hemp rope, that I have used on earlier builds. I like the looks of this rope.
here is a comparison of the original buoy plugs that came with the kit, and the buoys I made.....I did size them down some.
the relation of the buoy and the trap isn't too far out, so .....the heck with it, I'll use them. I also started to make the front doors for the other traps.
I bought this senery material for my B&M snow plow diorama......that's been in the closet for a while now. I only need a little of it for what I want to do.
after the doors were bent to fit, a bit more will be done to the traps, before they are cemented on.
more progress soon

popeye the sailor reacted to Paul Salomone in DKM Scharnhorst by Paul Salomone - 1:72nd Scale - German WW2 Battlecruiser
Good morning all,
Hi Popeye - always a pleasure hearing from you.
Some pictures related to the construction of the admiral's bridge.
Here goes.
Starting off with the bridge access doors.
The rim edge using copper wire.
Adding the details.
Both doors ready for finishing.
The ship's secstant and the supporting pillar. This tiny thing is made up from 28 pieces.
Tried to get another shot, but the thing is so small that the camera lens could not focus better.
Coating in eggshell white.
The rear panel and equipment in eggshell white.
The interior of the bridge in eggshell white.
The paint used - Hempel Marine Paints.

Only Andy............the wipers again! man, the last time you mentioned that, I almost got sent to the rubber room by the admiral! to make matters worse......if I did one boat.........I'd have to do them both...that's six wipers!
I'll get right on it !
thanks everyone for the good comments........I'm really surprised! I made the wipers for the M&M fun ship......yea, the admiral accused me of prolonging the build on her.......but when she had it in her hot little hands, she was a very happy camper! that's a really cool wiper Michael......you better save that one for your BIG build at this scale, I won't go that elaborate.....but I think I can make the to look like they have rubbers on them. I'll look into it........it is doable the build{s} is far from being finished at the moment........still more to go.
thanks again for all the good words.........it makes all the crazy stuff I think up, all worth wile. your ideas are priceless as well!

Well... Now you've got instructional photos... So if you find yourself in the "rubber room" (personally I think it may rank only slightly above "dog house"), you can go with pride knowing you're in good company.... With the rest of us nuts

Now are you going to install real window wipers (complete with rubber squeegee)?
It would go a long way in keeping the dust off
Just another silly suggestion...
Keep up the good work,

Popeye, that is some fantastic work on the windows. I hadn't thought of using something like molded styrene for trim.

I shouldn't mention this.......I don't want to jinx it, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. the admiral has her original computer, that had gone on the fritz. she got another computer.....one of those rent to own deals. she decided to see if she could get it up and running again and found that it needed a part. we had to look around, but we were able to locate the part......of course I said to just get it, nice guy that I am. got it home .......I installed it......and the computer seems as good as new. she is so happy that she {after looking at the books} may allow me to get the dead eyes I need! keep your fingers crossed!

thanks everyone! I really appreciate the good word.
I plan on four that will be at different stages on the sheer skids....and one that will be tucked under the sheer in a compartment. I have to get back to making the doors for the other ones. to look at other boats....every inch of space is geared for making money. thanks for looking in Mobbsie
that one is just a tad different Wayne, but that just goes to show the small differences from one to the other. these are cool seeing that they can be done any way you want
I think a smaller cooler could be shoved somewhere Carl
thanks for the good word Augie
thanks Mario........I can only work on one at a time......and I can remain busy while paint or glue is drying

I hurried up and got the other part together for you. the cover was completed, and sanded. then it was covered with the aluminum and cemented in place.
then, the 'L' section of the table was finished
so, here it is......dry fitted in place. I have to make a few things for it still, but the main part of it is complete.
no.........it's not leaving the table just yet! ahhh, now that I have him back in my clutches again.....I have a couple more aspects, I think I will work on. more updates soon
