    Hi Rob
I could easily make them out of walnut but i don't want to be replacing all the wood in the kit (been there and done that) some times you replace it and the stuff that arrives in the post needs replacing too and you can easily double the price of the kit that way.
Occre kits are pretty cheap compared to others so i don't mind too much making bits from Lime and then painting them Walnut colour
The Occre Endeavour is cheaper than the other Endeavours but it is larger and has the sails included so a bit of painting is ok

I made some progress with this build as well..........finally I have time to post it      the mast,  boom,  and gaff is tapered.  now I need to get the hardware on them.  I did get the mast somewhat done.........

I also got the cap rails on the cockpit.

the hatch for the cabin  is assembled.......

    ...and then painted.....

I did little touch ups on the boat before the new parts are added....

the cockpit door and hatch are now in place.

at this point,  I made the stand for it.

it's high enough for the center board  {leeboard}.

I painted the stand when I did the gallows for the trawler.   I'll be working on the mast parts and the sails.   I should have more soon      thanks for looking in!

so......both sides of the sheer deck molding is in place.........there is side rub rail molding as well.   I really didn't like the way they have it......a notch like channel running along the hull {I should have taken a picture of the instructions......you'd see it more clearly.   I painted some more molding strips flat white,  and I added 2 strips of .05 x 3 mm mahogany.   I ran those along the hull instead.

there are a couple gaps there,  but I'll fill and paint them.  they will be gone.      I ran them from along the top of the deck sheer molding.   some light sanding.......filler.......paint.....no problem.   then I did the transom.

the holds were cemented in place next.  it might be hard to see,  but the square piece under the cover {what would be the hold's 'box'} has been painted cobalt blue as well.

painted strips were cemented along the sides of the cabin roof {the underside edge},  and under both sides of the cabin door way.   the roof was then cemented in place....I used white glue so that the windows wouldn't cloud up.   if I had used CA instead...there is the possibility that could have happened.

I need to address the front edge of the roof........that seemed to run flush with the front cabin bulkhead { F2}.  I have an idea of what to do.   I'll show the progress with the tiller.......I cut it from one piece of scrap wood,  and I've been sanding and trimming it ever since.   the cabin door way and the cockpit trim needs to be done as well.   gee......get this all done,  and I can start masting this bad girl!

    PART 5 - DECK PLANKING

Per the kit, the deck was to be planked with walnut - very boring.  Instead, the king plank is mahogany, same as the cockpit and the balance is basswood.  I've already added a couple of layers of poly, which brings out the color variations in the basswood.  In hindsight, I should have used two strips of mahogany for the king plank.  Some of the planks are a big squiggly, but only if you look closely.
Per the kit, the cockpit was the cockpit should be painted.  Instead, I laminated all of the kit parts with 1/64" mahogany and then added numerous coats of poly for a smooth finish.  I still need to add the benches to the cockpit.

The hull planking is done, I just need to do a little bit more shaping on the keel.  I have another event tomorrow, so I'll get some photos of the full hull on Monday.

    Thanks for stopping by,

I have finished making the canons. I made 16 of them, also two for on the highest deck nearest to the end of the Wasa.

I made the axes from soft wood, which were actually sold for use in the kitchen in food preparations. They have a diameter of 2 mm, which was the desired size. I used washers (bought from Amazon) with outer size of 4 mm and inner size of 2 mm for the discs next to the wheels. I spray painted them black.
I drilled holes into the axis to be able to push small nails trought them.
Because of the soft wood, I could use a knive to cut the axes to the desired length.

Pictures of the canons. The coin is a 2-euro coin.

Compared with the canon, as supplied in the kit....

Hi all I need some help for a friend of mine. He is building ALs HMS Surprise and the figure head is not very good. Due to health problems he is unable to carve one for himself so just wondering if anyone knows of a replacement in 1-48 scale. Thanks for any help.

Having built the sovereign of the seas from Deag it's a stunning ship and no way I could afford it if it wasn't a part work plus you get the back up of there forum. There instructions are second to none with lots of information and history.

    Hi,
Because the sculpting is not my strong point problem of  figurheads for my models I solve using  commercial figurines with possible “face lifting”.
It may be figures of knights and ancient warriors.
I do not know what is figurehead on HMS Surprisie, the problem is if this is figure of a woman, no many this type figures are available on market.

HMS Warrir - it was Roman warrior from  commercial kit

Golde Yacht - it was knight on horseback

The only possibility I can think of is a custom carving or sculpture. This might be an expensive proposition, though!
