HMS Bristol, a sister to the later built Leopard, was to be my second kit in the range. However, things changed a lot after Alert. You see, I was going to have all my laser cutting done in Italy, using ply, MDF and limewood, and castings in white metal, again, all from Italy.

When the fist Alert parts arrived, I knew immediately that this is not the way I want to go, looking forward. The laser cut lime was about as robust as tissue paper, and the white metal castings looked nothing like the masters I had made. This is when I decided to use much better materials for all future kits, and since then, I have been establishing more contacts for suppliers. This did mean I needed a rethink of immediate developments, and the decision to purchase my own laser machine, as sub contract costs would have been crippling for the type and amount of cutting I had in mind.

The reason Bristol was put back is because the cost of the materials alone would have cleaned me out (at that time). The second reason is that I really need 2 laser machines before starting this, and one needs more power and a larger bed, for the thicker materials needed. I am now in a position where I could carry on with this, but my real love/yearning is for a large frigate before this. But all of Bristol's carvings have already been done, as is the armament, plus bulkheads, decks and all general hull lines already worked out.

the body dried overnight........removed from the bottom and more sanding and trimming.   the headlights are based the same as the tail lights.....they are sunken in......a hooded cavity.   I tried to fit them while the body was still taped together,  but that was futile.   I tried again later with better success and saw how they were to align with the hood front edges and the side body corners.   the headlight panels are chrome as well......I will likely paint them too.

there the first initial splash of paint.......

then dry fit to see to check for the front bumper alignment.

I tried to do a little sanding,  but it needs more time to dry.

I got creative with spackle for filling the gaps on the clear pieces.

The plane is now primed black:

Most of my models start out this way.

I tend to treat all of my models like gigantic war gaming miniatures, including my ships.

By priming black, it helps create depth.  I always paint from the inside-out.

I’m going to let it dry overnight and then I’ll paint it the same silver color I painted my B-58 Hustler.

    Then on to detailing!

Part two of my vacation begins this Friday.  I will try to airbrush the red base before I leave, so that maybe I can lay down the blues and get a start on the yellow.

I really like how the whole thing - the stern extensions, the frieze and port enhancements - all homogenizes under a layer of white primer:

Painting this piece will be a marathon, but perhaps I will at least have the complete port side ready for the show.

All the best, and thank you for looking-in!

thank you Jason, i stopped doing it when i was slated on a FB group, comments like how i should have left it to someone who knew what they were doing etc, kind of upset me in a way, im not sure if the confidence will return, and if it does i certainly will think twice before showing others

    Hi all.
I am due to move house again soon and sorting through possessions.
due to life getting in the way I have not done any ship building since 2014. I have a few kits started ( you can search my logs for photos etc) and some timber’s - pear etc and lots of other supplies - Chuck ropes and blocks and lots of other misc items
I am currently in Julatten - but could drop off to Cairns area. I am not asking for payment - although petrol money for delivery would be appreciated.
I hate to get rid of my supplies but I have to be sensible and it would be really nice for all my stuff to have a good home - NOT at the local tip.

    Reef points installation process..

    Mark it on the sail..

The knot was made on one end of the rope..

With needle it will be pushed through the sail.. if the hole is big enough, the reef line can be frozen with CA glue on one end and that end can be pushed thru the hole... this way no need for needle..

On the other side of the sail, the another knot was made..

The string is pooled and the knot was finished on the sail..

The knots were frozen with a drop of diluted PVA glue on each knot.. and dried with the hot gun (on lowest heat setting)...

    Haircut time..

    One row is completed..

    Happy modelling...

The model is still looking rough and will require more filling, sanding and shaping.

I don’t really build that many normal styrene models.

Most of my plastics are 28mm war gaming models, which use a different version of styrene, or a different type of plastic entirely.

Most of the rest of mine are either wood, metal, card or resin.

Is there any good way to fill gaps in the clear plastic?

    I finished the assembly:

The base is temporary.  A buddy of mine is making the permanent base, but it will mount like it is now.

I’ve done this style base for two other models now, and it looks great when done.

The temporary base will get used with another flying model out of my stash (and I have too many to count).

    good afternoon everyone

the outside skin never went quite to plan, all my efforts to put it on straight resulted in well, it not going on straight,  i ended up with a rather odd looking twisted box. one end was ok. so i but line across and removed the other end, re applied and it is ok now,
i never noticed it the time as there is a large off cut to allow for being off centre
the walnut veneer is slowly going in, but its a pain, so fragile

the photo's do me no favours at all

    the ok end

    and the not so ok

    good afternoon everyone

    thankyou for likes and comments

with 75% of the chassis done, the sharp shooters and  paying passengers need somewhere to sit

the internal shaped formers help to create the shape on the sides of the carriage, these were made up last night and allowed to dry

today the two sides were married via the floor, pva and C/A  and accelerator made quick work of the setting process
two end pieces go in to ensue the top is the correct distance apart
the floor end is then chamfered to ensure the outside skin is not fouled

the skin was ok to put on, i never used any heat or water, just took me time and pinned as i went along

the skin is way oversized, to allow for not putting it on straight

i will now wait until tomorrow before trimming it back

Here is the box label for the first 50 kits - at least you can overall dimensions of the model.

Just weighed the laser cut wood pack, almost 3kg, more than a whole Duchess kit!
