Siggi  -- Just catching up - Wow continued great work. Your figures also add a wonderful visual perspective to the size of these types of ships!
    Well done indeed.

    Siggi,
    Beyond Excellent as always.

PS: Hamburg is on my list -- and NOT for a ship museum - but for THAT other one that is arguably the most awesome in the world.

Patrick - adding your new  log as well. in the mid-90s I visited the Mary Rose (well after seeing that other one - right next door) haha — Very interesting. This was before they of course totally rebuilt the Mary Rose museum, which apparently today is astonishing. Looking forward to your new build, which are always a delight to follow.

    Cheers, my friend.

    Thanks everyone for your interest

A dummy plywood "keelplate" is made.
This showed that the mutual distance between the bulkheads was too great. So everything has been disassembled and the intermediate supports have been made 3mm narrower.
The new arrangement is now in proportion to the keel, stern, stem.

The shape of the front and rear bulkheads don't look right on sight (i think). I used the drawing from the book Anatomy of the ship (AOTS) and It looks if these are "taken" from MR Noblest Shippe (MRNS)
The AOTS scheme has 12 frames.
The MRNS has also detailed  "sections" and frames.

That is why the drawing of the sections (MR noblest shippe) has been enlarged by 200%. I spent a few hours at work today at the engineering department...😇
The intention is to make masters with these to check if the shape of the bulkheads matches with the sections.
This will also help to determine the position of the decks more easily. The deck of the cannons is open (a real deck, no holes in the hull with dummy cannons)

@Ondras71 This is indeed going to be a large model.

    @Veszett Roka
The keel will consist of 3 pieces from 2 different types of wood. The idea is to install it first.

    Testing my suspicion.
After enlarging the section drawings from the MRNS book, these sections were all copied separately.

A first test clearly shows a difference with the drawings (bulkheads) from the AOTS book.
    Grrr

All these (some of of them expensive) books and in none of them you find the simple mention about the length - width of the hull.
So i continue with the keel length and the beam in feet.
Length keel 60,... cm and beam 23,... cm.

The sections from MRNS seem to match better the 23cm than the bulkheads from AOTS 24.5cm

    Next plan.
Making these extra bulkheads and do a better shaping of the the already made bulkheads.
Better to do well now than to have problems later.

    I fully agree.
But, the advantage of the MRNS book is that I have a lot of drawings on a scale of 1/100. And it is easy for me to enlarge them to a scale of 1/50.
So I'm going to make the sections of MRNS and place them next to the current bulkheads. And then see what makes the most sense.

I promesed this build would be a long way to a finished model. I'm doing this well, haha 😇

    Hello,

    Alex-Ks1 -- big thanks

Here are some updated images of the continuing work with the stern gallery outer faces. I like how the outer windows turned out. Certainly more historically accurate (haha – this kit has nothing to do with historical accuracy).. though I am a bit regretful, in that all of the previous work (interior floorings, gold trimming on upper and lower inner window frames, and gallery planking are now totally hidden from view - oh well.

FYI: Last image offers a comparison of current kit's metal bit compared to vintage kit's solid bronze bits.

    Hi,
I have been away from this hobby for more than two months and, it was now time to continue the stern portion of this project.
Here are some images of my continued work at the stern area.

For those of you who are kind enough to still follow or just drop in for a look (big thanks) – You may remember that I also intended to mostly scratch build the stern, as well as lowering the poop deck angle from what Sergal suggests in their instructions.

Here are some images, and inserted notes of the work so far.

Cheers to all – enjoy your year-end holidays.

First I want to share an easy “for me” mistake. For any of you planning on this kit – well here was the error. I was not paying much attention when placing the number 4 & 5 hull frames over the current kit provided outline sheet. Both looked identical and just flopped them into place. Well it turns out that #5 is 2.5mm on each side larger than #4 – makes sense Now!   did not even see/notice that!

When I hammered all of them into their slots, but I reversed 4 & 5. Now wanting to install the lower gundeck templates – a big “unnatural” curve caused issues. Images included below. So mates be more cautious than me.
    ==================================
Installed starboard lower gun deck. Added trim pieces as well. Almost finished the port side as – next will need to drill dummy cannon holes and add the dummy carriages as well.

    Thanks for you kind visits…..

Finally getting back into the shipyard. Should be much more regular with updates again and I am ready to build!

While I have been busy over the past few months, I have managed to get in small bits of build time and have been particularly active this week resulting in all three lower masts and tops built. Neither masts nor tops are glued yet, just rough fitted. I will build all the masts, caps, crosstrees, etc. then switch to rigging. After all this time it will be nice to start going vertical.

  24. Thanks!

    Hello,
    Finished and installed the Tassels.
Many thanks to Michael (72Nova) (Take a look at his awesome Vasa build if you have a chance!)
Michael gave me some instructions on making tassels and my wife also lent me a third hand in making these.
Turned out not quite as nice as Michael's, but they'll do!

First step tape down .5 mm line along the length of blade handle

Using .25 mm line, wrapped around the handle multiple times

Knotted the .5 mm line around the .25mm line

    Removed from handle

    Started seizing around the bundle

Cut the loops at the bottom

    Repeated for multiple Tassels

Installed around both hanging flags on foremast and mainmast, and finished line in middle. (Also painted the Tassels the antique gold I have been using)

Added a couple on the ends of the canopy frames

Now to start making the 59 oars needed.
As other logs noted, the oars supplied by the kit leave lots to be desired, so I will make them from scratch.

Thanks for the likes, comments, and for visiting also.
