  1. Hi Igor The middle picture shows the hull's beautiful lines and shape. The method of doing the split hull with the red planking below the waterline is a really good one because it makes the transition between above and below the waterline nice and crisp. Hope I'm making sense! All the best Patrick
  2. Hi Bob, Mike41 and Mark This is the last lots of photos of Pandora. As you can see, the hull has been completed. All that's really left to do is rig the masts and spars. One day...one day... Hope you enjoy the photos and thanks. Cheers Patrick
  3. Hi Kevin That sounds like good solution. Amazing how sometimes things workout better after sleeping on it....although, sometimes, I wish I'd slept on a few things more than I had in the past! Good luck and look forward to seeing how it all works out. Cheers Patrick
  4. Thanks Row! Your compliments mean heaps to me. Whilst more installments will follow, here's a quick update: Last night I started on the bulkheads and doing the measurements for the layout of the rear owner's stateroom. This was important because it allowed me to get the locations and measurements of the other accommodation items such as the main companion way staircase, the bathrooms, toilets, cupboards and the navigation station. Still bucket loads to do, but it's definitely fun. Hope you're well. Cheers Patrick
  5. Hi Piet. I love absolutely everything about Warrior, the MBLS! You couldn't have done better than pick the name, either. A very fitting tribute to the cause. As for the detail...absolutely fantastic. The coke bottle and glasses add a really nice touch. Inside and out, Warrior's detail, charm and character are amazing. I bet secretly you really want to keep her; but the cause is greater and it'll go to a very deserving owner. Well done and congratulations. Cheers Patrick
  6. Hi Lawrence, Matija and everyone for their Likes! Greatly appreciated. Lawrence, I'm with you on that score. I always believe that adding life to a model, especially through detail, adds so much character and realism; which I guess explains why I love doing the interiors of models. Here are a few more shots, just for the sake of it! Hope you all have a nice week. Cheers Patrick
  7. Hi Bob and everyone else for their Likes and comments. Bob-Thanks once again. I understand what you're saying about 'nerves', but what I've seen of your ships, especially the metal work, windlass, fabrications, etc, I've got a long way to go...! Thanks for stopping by and enjoying Pandora. Here're some more detail shots. Cheers Patrick
  8. Hi Igor I like how you've built the hull in two parts (as seen in the photo above). Is this to make the insertion and placement in the bottle easier? Cheers Patrick
  9. Hi Mike, Bob, Igor and everyone else for your comments and Likes! Greatly appreciated. Mike - you're right about the differing scales in the AOTS book...took me a while to figure that one out, but all was good in the end! Bob - thanks for your comments as well. In terms of learning, I've learnt buckets from your models, especially the masting and rigging, so to hear your comment is a huge compliment! I have to admit, Bob, my stove doesn't look anywhere near as good as yours in your Friendship Sloop, though. Here're some more Pandora shots... Hope you enjoy. Cheers Patrick
  10. I'll try anything and I'll eat anything! I'm gonna lock that trick away for future use.
  11. Hi Matija That deck of yours....simply marvellous!!! Look forward to continuing to follow your progress. Cheers Patrick
  12. Hi all Here's the latest photos of Rainbow's interior. Hope you enjoy. All the best for the weekend! Cheers Patrick
  13. Hi Mike Many thanks. I believe the scale was 1/96, because it was the same size as the AOTS plans. The size of the ship is almost exactly 12.5 inches long, with a beam of 2.5 inches. The frames were laminated from walnut strips, whilst the deck beams and sundry bits and pieces were made from jarrah. The deck planks were made from birch veneer. Hope this helps! Cheers Patrick
  14. That's sounds great, Kevin. I guess you'll just need to make sure that you're happy with the end product ... Also, that's a good idea about the cabin roof. Perhaps, you may even consider leaving the roof totally or partially planked. Just some thoughts to play around with. All the best! Patrick
  15. Hi Kevin Just a thought... You could still leave part of the deck partially exposed in order to exhibit the beautiful work you've done on the internal structure. You could do the same with cockpit floor as well. That way, you could have the best of both worlds. Just a thought, as I said. Cheers A trick
  16. Hi everyone The following photos concentrate on the hold and lower deck details. More photos of other decks will follow in the next installments. Hope you enjoy these photos. Cheers Patrick
  17. Hi everyone My miniature version of Pandora (using Anatomy of the Ship plans) was started about 5 years ago, but to this day, remains semi-completed. The reason for not completing it was ...yep...you guessed it...I got scared of doing the masting and rigging! This, in spite of building the Victory as well as Bounty and Lennox, all of which were three masted ships with extensive rigging! You'd think I wouldn't have any problems and would be eager to rig this model, but, to no avail. One day I will finish her...I promise. In the meantime, I'll update the build log with more instalments over the next few days. Hope you enjoy the first lot of pictures. Cheers Patrick
  18. Hi everyone! Once again, many thanks for your Likes and encouragement! Special thanks also to Mike, Bob, Piet and Dennis for your wonderful comments! In reality though, building at any scale brings its own challenges and believe me, I'm just as much in awe of everyone else's skills and abilities as you may be in mine. All the best and greatly appreciated. Cheers Patrick
