Omega1234 got a reaction from Bobstrake in Majellan by Omega1234 - FINISHED - 1/200 - Luxury 37 m Motor Yacht - Miniature
Hi everyone
By jove, I think I'm getting the hang of this superstructure riddle! Slowly, by slowly, it's starting to come together. It's been a long haul, but at least I'm getting there. Still a bucket load of work to go, though.
My son took the following photos; hence why they're better than anything I could do.
Have a great New Year and thanks to all who commented and hit the Like button!
Cheers

Omega1234 reacted to popeye the sailor in Cutty Sark by NenadM
all the best to you and your family as well Nenad. too bad you can't use the pedestals....folks who plan on using them, tend to make provision for them when they lay the keel. the cradle is your logical choice. putting screws in the model itself?.......I've never had to do it. as others have said, if the cradles are deep enough and contoured to the hull, there is little chance of the model pitching and will give you better support. they do make a stick on felt, as a cushion for the model in the cradle....or just get some thick soft material and glue it on the cradle with rubber cement of sorts. if the inlay your trying to do seems too daunting, perhaps a raised relief may work. doesn't really need to be the star of India.......you could make a pair of anchors {one for each end} and add chain decoration.....or weathered rope. there are many possibilities.
you'll figure it out my friend.......you've made it this far in fine shape I hope your Christmas was good......and the new years rings in the continuation of this fine build.

Apparently, they even have a live video camera! You can watch the build process live, during the working hours in UTC+3 timezone

Thank you Denis,
I very much appreciate your fine comment.
Have just changed the ship`s action life-period from 1776-1780 new to 1776- 1777, as she has only been seen 1 year on the waves, until she foundered

Hi folks
I'm loving this mock-up of the superstructure; so much in fact, that I'm starting to use it as a mould to fabricate each deck's cabin structure.
I've even started to get a sense as to how I can lift off each deck in order to reveal the internal work (please see the individual photos below).
Have a great Xmas tomorrow!

Omega1234 got a reaction from Piet in Holiday Harbor by popeye the sailor - 1:20 scale - multi build
Hi Denis
Just a thought...and a very laborious solution, perhaps. Could you use some sort of stencil to cut the exact shape of each mesh panel out of coloured plastic (like cellophane) and place it in each panel. You could then sandwich them in between two clear sheets of plastic. Could work quite well, but it'd be fiddly for sure. But that way, you'd Be pretty close to simulating a stained glass panel.
Anyhow, just me thinking wildly...

Omega1234 got a reaction from Piet in Surabaya by Piet - 1/80 - Mid 17th-Century VOC ship
Hi PIet
Like Greg said, lots of research to get things just right, but more importantly, is the family time that you're getting now.
Enjoy and have a great time.
All the best!

Omega1234 got a reaction from Canute in Licorne 1755 by mtaylor - 3/16" scale - French Frigate - from Hahn plans - Version 2.0 - TERMINATED
Hi Mark
Absolutely love what you've achieved so far. Just the symmetry of the planking on the port and starboard sides of the hull, (ie when viewed from astern), is marvellous, not to mention the stern framing. Now that's care and precision, for ya.
Nicely done.
Cheers

Thanks Guys! I figured out what was wrong, a ground wire came off one of the motors so I managed to get it working but now I will have to get good at it!

Omega1234 got a reaction from dj.bobo in RNLB Ruby & Arthur Reed 2 by dj.bobo - FINISHED
Yep! Gotta agree with Bob.
The hull is looking great after the filling and sanding.
It looks like it won't be long before you could actually do a floatation trial. If so, I'd look forward to seeing that!

Woohoo! She's looking great, especially with the varnish on her. Very nice.
Hopefully the sea-trial voyages will be next.

I quite agree with Alan... WOW!!! Thanks for posting the pictures and the videos.
If you can, Mike, post all these and any others you have done here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/forum/43-nautical-research-guild-news-model-ship-clubs-and-exhibitions-and-events-museums-and-museum-ships/ It'll be an easier reference for others and more people will see them.

Other photos are without comments, just a bulk of what I managed to record while being in the hull. I was only allowed into the hull for 5min, so was shooting photos all around, just in case
Also, if you are interested - do not miss the youtubes by the builders of the replica. They are in russian, but nevermind the narrative.

Here comes the most interesting part of the tour! Only for shipmodelling geeks, regular visitors are not allowed inside the hull yet - you can fall from the deck beams.
Follow the guide! He is dressed according to the Ship's period, and is a real enthusiast.
Knees are made out of laminated oak planks, because it is too hard to find properly bent oak trees:
Mast post and internal planking. Note the ventilation holes, interesting detail:
Gunport sills are made in a simplified manner, without any angled mortises. Cheaters!
Also, they made the keel joints in the same way as I did, same projection. Not side-to-side, but top-to-bottom. I noticed it only on the photos, not when I was onsite, so do not have a really good photo. But it is visible here:
And a screenshot from the early construction video, where it is also visible:
So TFFM is wrong? Or both ways of making that joints are valid? Anyway, now I am not worried that my keel is wrong. Hey, 1:1 model is assembled in the same manner!
