Hi Kevin,
I was thinking the same thing as I re-posted the pictures. Wow, they all look like disasters as we build them don't they? But how beautiful they become as we work our way through the mistakes and re-dos. Just glad we all go through this together

Am I looking at hull using Manzonia, if so that's a lot of tight curves and a lot of pain. I'm playimg with the same timber but no bends.

I know what you mean about bending brittle wood. I broken my share of all kinds of modeling wood, trying to get that perfect bend. I eventually broke down and yep, bought a pair of plank crimping pliers (if someone reading this is a purist, look away). I'm not a purist and prefer to find the path of least resistance when possible. You would be surprised just how many people frown at the phrase "I can have that particular model built and finished for you within a year versus that happy look when you tell them 6-8 months. So sometimes you have to cut a corner or two. I usually soak the strips to be bent in water and lemon or lime juice or vinegar to help break down the fiber in the wood, after an hour or two the wood is ready to be crimped and molded. Now, if the crimped part will wind up showing on the finished product, I start with a larger thickness of wood and once crimped and dried, I sand out the crimp marks and bring the wood down to the proper thickness.

HI All, Sorry about the lack of updates, Thank you all for a stopping by looking commenting and/or liking, Very much appreciated.;
I have planking the upper deck ( not yet at a stage im happy with, needed sanding and weathering
I have planked up the starboard side above the gun ports im now happy with it, I put the inner patterns in with a strip of 1x4mm in to give my edge, the cannons fit very nice like this, i still dont understand why the patterns are out...
Ill up date soon,

I think this picture shows my port and starboard navigation skills have slipped somewhat!

By the addition of magic dust the build is starting to look at bit more like the HMS Victory!
It was a great visit, didn't really have long enough to take it all in (wanted to visit the submarine but ran out of time); tickets are valid for 12 months so another visit later in the year may be necessary, when it's not quite so hot (27'C on day of visit).
We may think our build time is long, the current restoration work will take 20 years to complete.
The tour of The Mary Rose was also very interesting.

Kevin reacted to Piet in Hr. Ms. O 19 1938 by Piet - FINISHED - scale 1:50 - submarine of the Royal Navy Netherlands in service 1939 - 1945
Thank you all for visiting and your likes, it's truly appreciated
@ Pete: Well - - - amazing it's not but acceptable to me but thank you. The extreme close-ups do make it look kinda crude but in reality it's rather nice. It'll be covered by a coat of primer and paint, that'll hide a few flaws
@ Chief Don: Yes, I know you are a "Bubble Head." This is meant with the highest respect and not meant in a derogatory manner! My father was a Bubble Head extraordinair and I have the utmost respect and admiration for all who have served and are still serving in the "Silent Service. I must have half salt water and then high test aviation gas and JP-4 in my vanes, I'm an "Airhead," aviation Just tell me when I'm doing something wrong.
@ Azzoum: Thanks for visiting my shipyard and your very kind words. We are all still learning my friend and if you are not happy with the first try do it again, and again - - - till you are happy with the results. I have a pile of rejected parts too,
@ Dave: Thank you too Dave for stopping by and your very kind words and compliments. I guess the metal skills may be attributable to 65 years of working with metals, both theory and hands-on. I just love working with my hands, whether it's metal, wood or whatever. I love to see you around my shipyard any time.
@ Kevin: Yep, I saw all the likes and figured you caught up with my work, thanks for dropping by. Thank you Kevin for your kind words and also coming from a submariner it means a lot to me.
Cheers to all,

Hi Kevin, the windows came out just great, congrats! And the ship looks awesome, holding it in front you gives an idea of how big she is.
Cheers,

Good that you're having fun again on this build. I'm impressed that liquid glass worked out on the installed windows.

WOW
that is one big upgrade from the corel kit

Hi
The skylight
Started as a basic frame
Laminated the top two layers of wood with CA to help stop the wood from spliting when I file.
Drilled for the windows around the sides and then filed out.
Next I used masking tape to outline the top windows, drilled and filed to the right size
I used wood stain to colour, and for the glazing acetate sheet.
The finished skylight on the ship
If anybody has any questions please ask.

Hi
Just a quick update to the build
I made the ships wheels because the ones that come with the kit were too big. I was going to post pictures on how I made them, but a hard drive crash put an end to that, I lost a lot of data.
As you can see, I have been building on the quarterdeck. The bulwarks are complete but I still need to finish rigging the gun carriages and after that, the next part to make is the compass binnacle, ladders up to the poop deck and possibly the sky light.
Not much more to add at the moment, if you have any questions or want to see a different picture view then please ask.
