Hi all, thanks for having me.

My name is Klas, I am 44 years old and live with my wife in Sweden, on the Baltic coast. I have recently taken up ship modelling and I am currently building the HM Armed Cutter Sherbourne from Vanguard Models. In the past I have done some plastic modelling and wargaming miniature painting.

As a profession I sit in front of a computer or in meetings all day. I am trained as a metal machine operator, turning and milling, and started work as a CNC operator. After a few years I learned 3D CAD and worked in the design department designing cutting tools, mostly drill bits. And since 15 years I work in the Supply Chain with more boring work, but getting paid a lot more. I miss some aspects of the work I have done in the past and I been wanting to take up a hobby where I can create something.

I am very interested in history, naval and otherwise, and I owned a sailing boat for a number of years.

I have a pretty good home office where I can do most work, however I can't really have much machinery here. I don't have a workshop, but my father in law has one about 20min away, he has a lot of tools, small bandsaws, turning tools even a CNC mill.

I have a lot left to do in my current project, but I am also looking into the next build. Here I would like something in a bigger scale I think. The Syren Cutter Cheerful looks incredible and I will probably try and get hold of that. The Maris Stella HMS Speedy seems interesting too.

The most inspiring model I have seen is the Winchelsea so maybe this would be a goal to aspire to in a number of years.

    Thank you for saying...

I am trying to set aside time regularly to make a little progress.

Continuing with the center line fittings below deck, the WELL was next up.   This is a relatively simple structure.  The four sides are laser cut and etched.  You need to do just a few things before you glue up the four sides.

First...make sure the fore and aft sides sit nicely on the keel.  Once you adjust them as needed,  you can cut the four upright columns to length.   How do you determine the length of these.  The two aft columns are shorter.  These are simply cut to fit under the next deck beam.  No  big deal.   The two columns on the fore side of the well are different and taller.   These two columns are cut so the tops are flush with the TOP of the gun deck beams or carlings.
You will have an opportunity to sand these shorter so dont over sand them initially.

Assembling the well is straight forward after you glue the columns to the port starboard sides of the well ahead of time as shown above.   You can also use some scrap tiny strips of wood to make the toggle handles for the access door.  Then just glue them on.   They are clearly shown on the plans.

With the four sides glued up and square...test it on your model.   After any minor tweaks you can glue it position permanently.

Then the next few gun deck beams, carlings and ledges were taken care of.   Eventually you will get to the beams where the capstan step needs to be built along the center line.  So you will need to stop and assemble the capstan step.   I glued those appropriate deck beams in position so I had a reference point to test fit the step periodically.  The step is also laser cut for you and has a recessed circle in the center.   This will accept the heel of the capstan drum...eventually.

The step is bolted to two columns that are set on top of  keel.   These two columns are 1/8" x 1/8" strips just like the other support columns under the beams.   Hopefully you havent forgotten to add any up until now.   They are all shown on the plans.

You must cut the two columns to fit under their respective gun deck beams.   Now you have to determine where along those beams the capstan step will be placed.   You can use the plans of course but it is doubtful it will match your model perfectly.  Mine didnt.   So just understand that the capstan step is slightly higher the lower aft platform and it is level.   Because you know this you can mark the columns for the height of the capstan step with the columns "snug" fit temporarily in position.

When I was comfortable that I had the proper height worked out, I was ready to glue it in position.  But first I had to add the simulated bolts on the capstan step.   I used 25 lb black fishing line to simulate these.  And yes the photo shows the step upside down so you can see the hole for the drum.   But rest assured it will be glued in position right-side up!!

The capstan step in position...and the carlings added afterwards.

And some other views...of the gun deck up to this point with the ledges completed.

Almost to the other side of the gun deck.  But next up are all of the cabins on the aft lower platform.   Onward and upward as they say!!

Frank, I have no information on the "Prestige Series".
Your kit is the one of the last in the series released 1977.
Found this interesting information for you.

    Found this history as well;

One website over in Europe that might be helpful for you to get higher quality parts for your kit is HiSmodel.
    Hope this is somewhat helpful.

    Soleil Royal, Aurora Heller 6550 (1977) (scalemates.com)
Aurora and Heller had a joint venture between 1972 and 1977.
The kit you have is a rare one. That's why you had a little hard time to find information and no I couldn't find any videos either.
There is/was an unopen box at auction in pristine condition a while back.
Don't know the outcome of it.

Dave, you might have to come up with something yourself. According to Hobbyzone website in Poland it's still not available. And they will direct ship to the USA. Their website has gotten new products during the past 9 months or more. I see two scenarios: 1- There's a new version coming out, which would be great. 2 - It will be discontinued, which would be sad.
Brexit  has just made it harder to export and import only to England, it's not affecting other countries to my knowledge.

Lyle, I have a 3d printer, shouldn't be to hard to re-create such for personal use, based on pictures and measurements.
    Not a bad idea!
HobbyZone in Poland are still showing unavailable for this product.

I have sent an email to HobbyZone in the USA and they don't know when or if the slip will be back on the market.
They are not getting replies from Poland themselves. Which is weird.
I would like to get one slip myself.

It can be done. I wish I used longer solid rods telescoping deeper.
