Will you be getting a case for her Adriaan, Just thinking about fitting the case to the base, if the line of the base is inside the width of the yards it aint gonna fit

thanks Mobsie I am thinking of buying a glass cabinet with glass shelves, because although expensive will be less in price then if I buy/make cases for each model individual. but if I would put her in a case It would have its own bottom board

Stain or varnish is a personal preference.  Sort of depends on the hull color.  The only GF I've seen was fully painted.  You'll figure out the base color.

 

Mobbsie has me confused (pretty easy to do).  My impression was that this is a base for the ship, not the bottom for the case?  In which case the yards don't matter at this point.

Ah, thanks Adrieke.  That's what I thought on the base size.

 

Oak looks nice !!!!

Augie since she will be painted dark green below the waterline and white above I believe the oak stain will look better, but I will decide just before I permanently mount her to the board (when she is all finished so that will still be a long long long time)

planking has slowed down a bit since all the planks now need lots of tapering and pre bending

I estimate 2 more weeks to go. then the next sanding and filling fest will be on getting the hull as smooth as I can

this week finishing the KoM has been taking up all my time

 

but now I am back working on the planking

 

only a few more rows are left at the bottom, but the stern top is a bit of a challenge with the complex curves ( had to rip out a few planks as I was not happy with them)

 seems so but mine is only a small one . only removed 2 planks and need to do a bit more fairing so they ll lie better this time

only 2 planks left on one side and about 6 on the other until the lower gap is closed

as you can see there are some gaps that will need filling but overall after only a bit of sanding the hull feels smooth apart from a few small bumps that need sanding down

your doing very well on the planking.....did they supply a rounded section to go around the stern?  that area will be a bear to plank

thanks Popeye. no rounded section but what i did do is added a second plank bended all around that is higher then it should be. that wil give me something to plank against . it wil need to be sanded down to half height but i think it wil help a lot with the prebending and holding the plank while it is glued down

That's some nice planking Adriaan, regardless of a few tiny gaps.  Is this a single or double plank project?  Will the hull be painted or coppered and painted?

i have now finished the planking on the bottom and have started on the rounded stern section

I am actually only 3 planks away from finishing the first layer

initially I thought I was going to have lots of difficulty but after a bit more fairing of the stern bulkheads all went well

and the extra plank I bended around the stern made it easy to pre bend the planks as I could use it to hold the plank in place

You've done well with the stern Adriaan, there are a lot of different curves in that area.

 

Good idea about the extra plank, if it helps and makes life easier go for it.

look from the stern . only 3 planks to go . you can see the 2 planks curved around with the bottom one sticking out a fiar bit. this is where I tuck the curved planks underneath

 

bottom bit al ldone Sjors . from this view she actually looks all finished

 

last plank on this side all shaped and waiting to dry. due to the extra plank and that the plank is wedged in I don't need anything to hold it down. I didn't push it all in in case I couldnt get it out  without breaking for the final glueing

Just as Popeye is saying...a little filler, sanding and then the paint job !
