I finished the capstan and the forward round skylight and am still struggling with the deck layout. I plan to follow the kit layout for the kit build  but for the scratch build i want the deck layout to be as it would have been during the first race. So far i cant find definitive directions so have turned to the paintnigs of the time. I will include the ones that i am being guided by.

  • I feel that the top of the Capstan was painted red.
  • While the top moulding around the skylight was white.
  • The forward grating would have been covered either with a canvas cover or with a wooden cover to keep the sea water out while crossing the Atlantic. Only one of the paintings shows a civered grating, all the other show a rather large structure like a second access point.
  • I also see no cushions on the seat so will not show any. I any case they would never have been covered in black canvas. I will use blue or red for kit boat.

Any input would be appreciated.

This is the scratch built version of the kit. I am in touch with the Great Britton  Trust who have 4 plans done, 2 by Campbell and 2 by Geisendorfer and am hoping they will agree to send me digital copies.  The main change to the scratch built boat is the change of the grating to a second hatch opening. The bow also shows a access hatch. This is reflected in some of the historical paintaings while in others it is not shown.
