Planking  of  the hull begun

It is very  important to read the hull planking tutorial on this board  !!!

With smoothing the planks in warm water  and tapering them  the hull gets closed  more and more  .....

Cabin !

To avoid the problem  finding  the correct angle of the cabin front

I  used an easy  "helping construction "  - not included in the kit B)

@Alex -- thank you for the hint in your log

Detail view - Working on window frames ....

The painting of the cabin didn't work quite adequate for me

and I had to put some glue to the   left cabin edge  at a certain point after painting as well

I should have been waiting longer until the drying process has completely finished ,  because  this  made the paint to scrape off

Now  I take the the best of it --   looks like corrosion --  Vintage, eldered   :D

Cheers       :dancetl6:

your Norden looks great Steffen!   the  "Mary Ann"  pilot house was built the same way.  I wasn't happy though,  because the windows were too small......so I made another one with larger ones.   I 've built a few of these Billing Boats....instructions are not the greatest,  but the kit is pretty good.  I used to have the Mary Ann and the Cux 87 build here,  but they were lost in the crash.  these two were based on a full hull construction,  unlike your build which is a half hull design.......but the hulls are quite simular.   your build looks familiar.......did you start this one before the crash?  I never forget a build  :)

I yam wot I yam!

finished builds:
Billings Nordkap 476 / Billings Cux 87 / Billings Mary Ann / Billings AmericA - reissue
Billings Regina - bashed into the Susan A / Andrea Gail 1:20 - semi scratch w/ Billing instructions
M&M Fun Ship - semi scratch build / Gundalow - scratch build / Jeanne D'Arc - Heller
Phylly C & Denny-Zen - the Lobsie twins - bashed & semi scratch dual build

Billing T78 Norden

in dry dock:
Billing's Gothenborg 1:100 / Billing's Boulogne Etaples 1:20
Billing's Half Moon 1:40 - some scratch required
Revell U.S.S. United States 1:96 - plastic/ wood modified / Academy Titanic 1:400
Trawler Syborn - semi scratch / Holiday Harbor dual build - semi scratch

Today , started planking the deck

I want to use some black twine to put between the  planks -  for gaining some "calk" effect

hope it works ....

The best way to get a nice curve on the edges of the planks near bow and stern   is to  cut and taper before glueing !

Cheers Steffen

well.....hello there!   good to see your making progress  ;)   I got this same boat kit for Christmas...guess I'd better be taking notes :)

structures and layout looks super.   very nice choice of colors.   I use an archive pen for the simulated calking........a bit less labor intensive.   planking looks good so far  :)
