Hi, I'm Keith from Ohio.  I have been building plastic static models of different ships for years and only recently decided to try my hand at wooden ship models. Turns out my wife is a huge fan of tall ships, so she supports my new hobby completely!

Sadly all I have to work with is AL because that's all my local hobby shop sells.

I am finalizing an AL Aberdeen Schooner that started as the Scottish Maid but due to ignorance on my part and it being a really crappy kit...well, she's being renamed and has a different look than the Maid.

Good for you! Check ebay for deals. Shipping can be less than dealer markup especially on a slow mover. I think wood is more forgiving than plastic. It is also a way of thinking about how ships were really built.

Hi Keith,

Welcome aboard mate! Try on line with the big ship model retailers like Model Expo, Ages of Sail, Modellers Central, Natures Coast. They all sell most of the lines of the major model companies.

Welcome to MSW, Keith, from a former Buckeye.

Local hobbyshops seem to only carry AL kits for some reason.   Have a look around here (the front page has a pile of links to various on line resources) and you'll see kits from all over.
