Newbie here with questions.

Is there such thing as a good beginners tool kit for some one who is just starting out. If not any recommendations on what tools would be a good to start with?

This will be my first attempt at a wood ship model. Since I have always liked the paddle wheel riverboats, I decided to make this my first model. I got a great deal on the Artesania Latina king of the Mississippi. Probably not the best starter kit but certainly not the worst.
Do any members recommend any how to books, manuals, etc.

Cheers,

Larry

Welcome to MSW, Larry.  The others gave a good starting point.   As you delve deeper into ship modeling you'll want to add to your  tool chest.   The key is buy what you need as you need it, otherwise you'll end up with a tool box full of tools you'll never use.

In the articles database, there's a topic on materials and tools.   Therer's also an excellent article on tools NOT to buy.   http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-materials-and-tools.php

Welcome aboard!

I would agree with everything above and maybe add a variety pack of emery boards yes the ones your wife/girlfriend uses on her finger nails. And don't forget this forum is the best tool in your tool box use it often.

Best Regards
