Can you edge bend the second planks?

Hi. I'm just a couple of rows into a second planking and starting to see the same issues with bowing that the edge bending method relieved on the first. Will it work with 0.5mm wood? Should I cut shorter planks?

I have never been a fan of edge bending, but that has changed for some situations in the past few weeks.    Follow Chuck Passaro's tutorial and you should be pleased with the results.   A lot depends on the wood.  Walnut in most kits is really miserable wood to work with and often very porous and prone to cracking and splitting so be careful if that is the wood you have to work with.   Castello, bass, pear, poplar, and fruitwoods are good candidates for edge bending.   Chuck uses dry heat with his heating iron which works, but I found some scorching on a cherry cap rail so added water to the iron and used the steam setting and I was pleased with the results.

Was going to recommend  heat  with a plank heat bending tool  - they type thats like an electrical soldering iron with a  rounded section on the end to heat the planks  - works well on soaked planks.

Yes, you can definitely edge bend the second planking. Both my Nelson and Cheerful build log describe how I do it using Chuck’s method. Absolutely no soaking, water,steam, or special heat tools required. I used it on Walnut as easily as on Alaskan Yellow Cedar with nothing more than a travel iron.

Thank you for replies.  Did indeed edge bend, 0.5mm tanga. Almost finished now, my first attempt at planking, hope I can gently sand it without going too far....
