    You might look for how chess/checker boards are made in the wood working magazines. However, I think that the diamond pattern may have been a painted canvas rug in many cases...

    The new Heller Victory instructions are listed on the Heller site, but I haven't found a retail vendor that has them yet. HISModels (http://www.radekshipmodels.cz/en/) is going to order them soon...

    Rubbing alcohol is iso-propyl alcohol and you need ethanol...

    I was just able to get some miter gears from McMaster Carr purchased and delivered to my homemusing my personal credit card. No business account was needed...

    If you are building a static non-working model, you might want to look at Plastruct tubing and fittings: https://plastruct.com/

    I use foamcore as a sheath for knives with mounted blades that are out on the bench.

    I got a sleeve of plastic 25 ml sauce tubs at a local restaurant supply store for this application, styrofoam plates also work well as palates for water based paints.

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
