The box art and promo pictures show a prototype model which has them pointing downwards, but in the video and once you assemble it they end up pointing upwards.

Note there is another error in the instructions. The eye bolts that go on the inner end of the spreaders should be rotated 90 degrees from how they are shown in the instructions.

Alright so lesson for the day. None of my glue works with the stain. And I wont know until I've stained if it will show through. So now I have to stain everything before gluing so it actually be fully stained. So yea lol will be done differently from now on unless doing acrylic paint.20210521_001556.thumb.jpg.f1b59351dce0ee35af48f28ff51be4cb.jpg20210521_001559.thumb.jpg.54271a852aad515a3851c6a4d8c1c1ff.jpg20210521_001603.thumb.jpg.3022ecf24cb62ad164e3bf1289336577.jpg

if anyone has any better ideas then sanding the specific spots(which I cant get to at this stage) and restaining until it covers. I would love to know any ideas!!

Argh, I know your pain. On my first boat I brushed glue all over one of the planks. It was a small launch boat so the internal planks were visible and it was just impossible to stain right. There is no real solution, maybe try scraping it with a sharp blade. More stain is just going to make the contrast more stark. Alternatively you could try mixing some varnish with some stain, thats what I ended up doing and it did hide it a bit.

Previous builds: HMS Bounty's Launch (Model Shipways), USS Albatros (OcCre)

Current build: HMS Beagle (OcCre)

Future builds: HMB Endeavour (Caldercraft), De Zeven Provinciën (Kolderstok), HMS Victory (Caldercraft/De Agostini/Artesania Latina/Corel)

I thought of acrylic but if I do acrylic on this one I would have to do it to all because it would be obvious the difference.

Yea I saw that when I tried it to over stain a small hidden part to try it. I might just chalk it up to learning because some of the spots I literally cant get to. Maybe I'll use some acrylic like Keith suggested but just to hide my mistakes and just have it as a thing me and the few of you following my build will know. Lol

You could just replank it, but to be honest by the time the treads, blocks and deadeyes are attached its going to get busy in that area, so put it down to experience

Personally i dont stain much, but i do weather the wood by using a clay based colour from Flory, brilliant stuff

Can you send a link so I can check it out. Weathering instead of staining sounds like it might be a better look because I cant guarantee the same color through the whole project with stain because of the different woods that are in the build.

i use flory stuff all the time, as my modelling skills are quite bad

this is a couple of the colours

grime, rust, grey, sand are on this test peice for my St Nectan build, i use grime a lot

as its water based it can be made up in layers or watered down, desigbed purposely for plastic as it can be wiped of when dry, obviously not with wood

I'll give it a shot but that all black mast top looks extremely clean and I love the look. Glad to have you following along with my build!

..nice try, mate. You can fool the fans, but you can't fool the players. I've looked at your models.

He is being humble right? @Kevin it's a great trait I appreciate in people when they aren't boastful :)

So I decided to get the rest of the initial foremast done so I could see it in full scope and it truly is going to be amazing. Still working on the top of the foremast and decided to put our brand new flock member in the picture for scale lol. More so I want to make a pirate hat for him (his name is pickle) and have pickle the pirate as a star of my updates if I can lol.

Looks really great! After following your build I have decided to order this kit for myself. I'll need to finish my Bluenose first but I think this will be my next build.

It really is quite a nice kit and very friendly to the builder. If you want historical accuracy I've come to find there is changes for sure that need to be made but all in all it comes together really easily.

You're doing a great job on this kit, and I'm enjoying following along. My own model has taken me two years so far; I'm so slow at building.

I love the picture of Pickle. A little green budgerigar is pretty much the perfect pet. Out of all the parrot family, they are my favourite. Be sure to feed him a varied diet without too many seeds, and he will live a long time. I love those little guys.

Thank you so much for your complments!! While your build is slow it is an amazing looking ship and you are doing it justice for sure from what I see :)We have had birds for quite some time. We feed them chop and millet and some seed but not a lot. If you look earlier in my build my cockatiels actually chewed part of my ship and had to do repairs on it. Lol

The Beagle is looking good, Rob. Your work surface looks well organized compared to mine, mine looks like it was stirred with a stick.

Alright so I'm sorry I have been MIA but I got hit with change of Job and all sorts of things to stop my progress but I got a little bit done. Went back to the life boats and started getting them squared away. IMG_20210626_215243135.thumb.jpg.3e0b80cb0b29d9ad2102fea43b6d51dd.jpgIMG_20210626_215254844_MP.thumb.jpg.c785fef1eea1cb8850a22fc72c1645f1.jpg

one issue I am having is the wood no matter how much I sand keeps staying frayed like thisIMG_20210625_100446774.thumb.jpg.b0db549097f3a4bd1e96d97998c90403.jpg

I don't know how to stop this so any suggestions or tips would be appreciated!!

Rob, the ships boats look good. As far as the sanding goes, try a finer paper, 600 grit or steel wool #0000.

Finished on the boats now back to the masts. Wanted to take a break from them because I was going to fast and skipping steps and having to redo things. IMG_20210627_085018469.thumb.jpg.2a2891195f23bfb886225d870d13b5da.jpgIMG_20210627_085005081.thumb.jpg.2eab992b9a331357b84ad5ed6b6aa809.jpgIMG_20210627_084947823.thumb.jpg.4e537777dd4be9bca5f114370cc8d793.jpg

the staining underneath is kinda messed up but it's a lesson learned to just use acrylic paint instead of trying to be fancy. Would thinning out the acrylic let the separations of the planks show so it looks like wood? Because that's the only problem I have with it is that it doesn't really show wood details it's just a layer over everything.

Rob, I'm afraid it would look exactly like thinned acrylic paint. You should test a piece of scrap to see what you think.
