Also have scratch built some 1:12 and 1:8 scale horse drawn vehicles. Basically saying have some modeling experience. Ship building is a whole different ball game with all the rigging the names of different items etc. my first model of any thing water related was a strip canoe which was a kit but had allot of fun doing it. Thought I would try another model and decided on the Mississippi Riverboat by OcCre. Looks like a challenge and good winter project. It's a great way to get help and meet other builders. Also, do a search in the kit area for the "era" of that model and see if there's any logs for it. I'm sure that there are.
