Can you help me by indicating a method to create the wooden window of the Livorno Galleon of 1606, taking inspiration from the window in my possession made of brass (see attachment).

I would like to make holes to put a fake glass in so that we can see inside the Galleon.

You might be able to use a jewelers saw to cut out the windows. Drill a hole in each windowpane to feed the saw blade through, then cut out each separate pane of glass. That's the only way I can think of to get square corners. If the metal is too thick, and breaks your sawblades, use a Dremel and grind away at the back of the part until the metal is thin enough to easily cut.

Current Build;

 1776 Gunboat Philadelphia, Navy-Board Style, Scratch Build 1:24 Scale

On the Drawing Board;

1777 Continental Frigate 'Hancock', Scratch Build, Admiralty/Pseudo Hahn Style, "In work, active in CAD design stage!"

In dry dock;

Scratch Build of USS Constitution... on hold until further notice, if any.

Constructro 'Cutty Sark' ... Hull completed, awaiting historically accurate modifications to the deck, deck houses, etc., "Gathering Dust!"

Corel HMS Victory Cross Section kit "BASH"... being neglected!

If the window panes are large enough, drill out a small hole (carefully using a drill press or mill) and then a small square file to shape the openings.   It may be a bit boring but also tedious.

The other alternative is to cut out the panes and cross pieces completely such that there's only one large opening.  Then add small bits of wood to make the framings and glaze.   Still will be tedious.

in addition to the good tips above, you may consider scratch building it from various strips, I would even consider styrene. There are no difficult shapes here, and the decorative trim can be made from brass wire or modified eyebolts. The panes can be built up from segments, glued to a transparent background, or maybe take some overscale kit gratings, and sand it thin.

I found all your answers very helpful. Gregory : the dimensions of the outermost part of the window are 20 x 24 mm. I'll try thinning the back of the window like you say tmjAfter thinning the back of the window, I will try to do as you say Roger PellettI also find your solution interesting mtaylorI was also thinking about doing your solution DavidG. I have to see where to find styrene here in Italy.
