The yacht D'Oro from Corel actually looks like the replica (called Sehnsucht) of the Great Yacht from the Brandenburg Navy.

This kit from Corel dates from 1973, the plans and especially the instructions are completely off.
Bought at a very good low price. If you really want to build a yacht from this period. For the same retail price there are better quality options.

A challenge ... 👍 ;)

I think this the only existing painting of this vessel

A challenge, perhaps, but at least Corel kits typically have good-quality wood.

P.S. I have edited the log title, including correcting the spelling of Größe to Große -- the first instance is a noun, the second is the adjective form. Those pesky umlauts!

Thanks. And the wood is indeed of good quality.

öß or ß ???

Neither letter is on the keyboard of my pc or smartphone. We do not use these in the Dutch language.
So I did a "copy, paste" of the text on the website of the Maritimes museum in Hamburg.

A German museum that cannot spell a German text correctly on their website....😪

Btw, English, German...  never learned at school 😇

Here we go
The plywood is beveled at the keel and bow. And the new keel and stem are ready, these are connected with a scarf joint.

By using the plywood and the walnut planks as deck, I have to lower the bulwarks and the plywood keel piece at the top by 2mm.

I wish you all the best with this one! A brave choice to go for an (old) Corel kit :P but I think it will be good in your skilled hands :D

I do think it's a nice handsome little ship when it's finished.

The bulkheads are glued to the keel.

To make this plywood easier to bend, cuts have been made on the inside

Now to do is shape the bulkheads a bit better and bevel them.
The hull shape does not match a Dutch yacht from this period.  But fortunately we are not building a Duych yacht 😇

planking

Corel's idea is to nail extra supports to the deck.

20241105_081131_1280.jpg.16a0cbffe1d120a0a1294f0cdacde548.jpg20241029_155341_1280.jpg.d4dc50513065c5c1a4cd9062f4789f82.jpg
I don't think this is very practical. That's why they were removed and this material was used in a different way that gives more support to the planks.

20241101_133121_1280.jpg.dcc0a36803d052c319407aaeca22d003.jpg20241101_133144_1280.jpg.e6d905d3a9cecd69f402d1a6dc0b095e.jpg
The pear planks are very flexible.

I don't know anything about a 17th century yacht, so I bought some reading material in advance.

Planking

First planks were placed on which the large PE parts will later be glued.
For the correct position, the height of a cannon was first measured. And this way the position of the first wale can be marked.

Once this wale is glued, the excess part of these first planks is removed and further planking can take place.

Planking

Before further planking can be done, a spiral staircase must first be made. Originally this is made of plywood, so a new one is made of pear

The opening is placed more towards the middle, then there is less hindrance with the cannon that is in front of the staircase.

this method is found in the book of the Dutch yacht Utrecht.

She's looking really good and bit tiny next to the Mary Rosasaurus Rex behind her. 😁 I've seen many here working with pear. I haven't tried that species yet. I'm not sure how available it is in the US.

Thanks.

Luckily Mary Rosasaurus doesn't have any teeth yet😉.

Personally i like cherry wood more than pear wood
