This is just an initial foray, as it were, into what I can do with a completed project.

I spent a very enjoyable 15 years building Victory, but all good things come to an end! Personal circumstances are changing, and I am beginning to think about the ultimate fate of the model. At present, I am lucky enough to have a 4th bedroom, now the Boatroom, but we are thinking about downsizing. That would mean that without doubt that there would be no room for such a massive model, and none of the family has room to take it. I know from working there that places such as Portsmouth Naval Museum are not interested, indeed they are offered numerous models every year,

So, whilst it would be nice to sell the boat and get something back, I will probably just have to move it on. Remember, this is the biggest model, it is very heavy, and very fragile, so expensive to transport anywhere. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what to do, how to usefully move the boat on.

Plenty of time yet, so ideas please!!!

You might take some photos and show them to the folks at your local library.  Ours does accept them and rotate them around on display.  We also have a children's center that does the same thing with things like planes, cars, etc. and some ships.

have you tried any yacht clubs in your area, golf courses, catering halls, seafood restauants?

its a shame, all the work that goes into building these models... we cant even get minimum wadge for the time invested in them.

where are you located?

Hi,

Assuming you are in the UK. I have been giving the same thought and are thinking of the smaller museums around the coast. Also some of the RNLI stations, can sell or exhibit as they wish.

Last time i was at the Portsmouth museum the shop on the site was selling someone's collection of built kits. I was rather saddened by it. They were extremely well built.

The local restaurant is a great idea, especially if it’s one you really like.

Another idea is that I’d bet your local Navy recruiter would love to have that model in their office.

1:64 HMS Revenge (Victory Models plans)

The only issue with the smaller museums is that they are having to put exhibits away to improve access and display the new essential politically correct exhibits.

I donated a built Victory to my local Library and also another large ship model to my local Hospital, which holds an auction once a year to raise funds. Now, my question to you is, is your Model Victory in a display case? If not, then most places will not accept it due to possible damage and becoming a giant dust collector. Both my model donations came with display cases.

Thanks everyone for your help. Plenty to think about. It will be a wrench, so I will not rush into it. Many good points raised, especially about a case. No, it is under plastic wraps at the moment, because of cost, and also weight. A local manufacturer has told me it would weigh over 15 stone to build a case, and have safe glass or perspex. Btw Thunder, yes, I am in UK. Cheers all.
