Hi all

Ok yes I know it has been a long time ha ha.

Now that the SoS is all finished it is time to turn my attention to the "Royal William".

As I had a bit of time on my hands last night I thought I would sort all the deadeyes and blocks out as in the kit they all come in one bag.

I was a little surprised that some of them need to be replaced but hey that is nothing new with kits as you all know.

So it is chin up and just carry on with the build.

Hi Brian

Yes I agree with you the Deadeyes and Violin blocks are OK.

It was the rigging blocks 1 and 2 hole blocks that I was disappointed with.

I have some of Chuck but not used them yet so will have a look at what I have and order more.

Hi Brian

I am not getting at Euro Models at all I do like this kit.

Like I said before I do think that ALL kit manufacturers should take a good long look at themselves.

What ever happened to Quality Control , yes I know you cannot get every hole in the blocks correct but when some are 1mm out from the others it makes you wonder.

I see that your kit has the same problem as mine. Bulkheads "C" and "D" do not reach all the way down to the level of the false keel. I had to shim these prior to bevelling. I can also see the the top of bulkhead "F" does not sit level with bulkheads B-E. Same with mine :)

Regards, Keith

Hi

Well I have dived into the RW box.

I have dry fitted the frames, some are a bit loose and will need packing out ( about 0.50 x 5mm ).

Denis.

Hi Denis...

Just subscribed to your new build of the RW - and will follow with interest.

I have just sculled a Beer, Strapped myself into a Roller Coaster

and waiting for the Wild Ride to begin. I know you won't disappoint

Good Luck - visi

Hi Keith

Yes I did notice them.

I was only dry fitting them as I could not help my self to start her ha ha.

I am now in the dog house , the wife said I could not start till the room is painted .

Never mind the kennel is nice and warm.

Hi all

Before I post any more photos etc.

I would like to thank Jim of Byrnes Model Machine tools.

Without his tools I don't think I could have cut the spacers so accurately.

I overcut the spacers on the table saw and finished with the disc sander, all cuts and sanding are dead square.

Hi Denis,

this tool-Thing sounds quite perfect. Do you have any link to the machine? I dont know if in Germany any similar tool can be found, bit with a Picture or description I can perhaps find a way. I am always a Little bit angry when the cuts dont get into a real perfect shape...

Thx

Cheerio

Hi Max

If you go to the main page of MSW and scroll down on the right hand side you will see "Byrnes Machine Tools" just click on the link.

As I know it they are hand made to order.

If you want to see what they look like I have photos on my SoS log.

Page 21 is the Table saw.

Page 23 is the Disc sander.

Page 25 is the Thickness sander.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Popeye

The lower deck is split in half as per kit, but to get it into position you have to cut it half again so you have got 4 parts.

The first part to go in is the stern end, you do this by pushing it through the last bulkhead frame at the stern and just past the main mast location then bend it to the lower deck area, then keep pushing it to the bow area.

Now it has dropped down to the lower deck area, you then push it back to the stern to make it fit, you do this about a zillion times to get it correct.

Then you have got to do it 3 more times ( good fun I like doing this ) but I did dry fit them first before gluing, that I am doing now.

I think she is the same as the SoS if that is Big ???.
