US Brig Niagara by Laxet - FINISHED - Model Shipways

Recommended Posts

Thanks George. No, I take them off as soon as I do a batch. They will probably take some adjustments to make them look just right. I should have mentioned that I dab them with white glue once I make one. By the time I'm done with the batch, the first one is dry enough to remove.

Here I am, reworking the rope coils. In the picture below, you can see how they came out initially (on the right). The two on the left have been reworked. I put too many coils on each one & the top loop was too long, causing the coil to hang too low & look unnatural. The reworked ones are not great, but they are better than the initial ones.

Well, this is it. As far as I'm concerned, she is done. Here are some more final pics. It's been fun. I'll be monitoring this forum in case anybody wants to discuss anything.

Congratulations Dale. She looks awesome. Give me two more years and I'll catch up with you.... :)

I noticed the pictures of the 747 and shuttle. I was aboard one of the two NASA 747's at Dryden during the 90's. I seen quite a few shuttle landings at Edwards on the lakebed as well as the runway.

Regards,

Larry

Thanks Larry. I shot those shuttle pictures when it landed at LAX a couple of years ago. That was the first time I had ever seen it.

And thanks to everybody else for their kind words. It's been fun exchanging ideas & learning so much about ship building. I already miss not seeing her on my desk anymore after so much time.

And here is her final resting place. It is my belief that all fireplace mantels should have a sailing ship on them. I finally got one. All I have to do now is build a case.

Very Nice Dale,

Well done she's a beauty.  I plan to start my Niagara build soon and will be referring to your log for guidance.

GREAT job! I'm in the process of building an entertainment center where I'll have space to display several ships. I have a few store bought that will do for now and of course plan to replace them with models.

Interestingly, I have that same print of that ship in rough water too.

Norwegian Sailing Pram 1:12 Scale. 2nd boat in the learning series.

In Dry Dock:

Muscongus Bay Lobster Smack. 1:24 scale. Model Shipways, 3rd in the learning series.

Not sure what'll be next, probably the Santa Maria by Artesania Latina 1:65 scale. Unless someone has a better suggestion for a beginner.

Pride of Baltimore. Model Shipways. Clipper used in the war of 1812.

Black Falcon. Mantua Model. 18 century corsair brig.

CSS. Alabama. E. Manolie? Can't read the font. Build in Liverpool in 1862 for use in the American Civil War by the Confederates. Steam and sail, sloop of war.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

A baseball cap my Dad wore.

Excellent job! I will be stopping by for reference on my build underway. And you are correct about fireplace mantels.
