Greetings robert

Welcome to MSW with another Caldercraft Victory, which will give you a few years of real enjoyment, building a wonderful model. You will never be lost for help and advice during your build, it's always there for you. I look foward to following your log with interest, and the best advice I can and many others will give you is take you time, enjoy the build, and create yourself something special... DAVID

That looks a challenging first build, I have opted for a very much smaller model to start on  which is the  Virginia 1819 kit by Artesania Latina.

looking good though  and look forward to the progress updates :)

Welcome to the Victory build, it is a great project to take on and I will follow your progress with interest. And please feel free to ask questions, I had invaluable help so far from others who have boldly gone there before.

Thanks Glennard, I'll defo be asking questions later on in the build, I've been over yours "and others" build logs with great interest, some great model ship builders on this site that's for sure.

I would never have taken on this project without this site, a gold mine of information on here. :)

Greetings Robert

I was wondering if you were going to add supports in the keel for mounting pins, as it will be easier to cut out the slots before assembling the bulkheads.. It will also be a good idea to reduce (taper) the bearding line down to 3mm at the stern before any assembly at all ( page 3 before planking the hull) as this makes life a lot easier. Sorry if I am telling you the road you know. Enjoy your build. DAVID

Thanks David, I appreciate your comments immensely " this comment is exactly what I'm hoping for during the build" on this occasion all taken care off.

I'll post more pics before I commence with the first planking, please keep the assistance coming ;)

This is just a dry run only.

1. The back edge is flush with the outer stern extension pattern (106)

2. The rear most upper gun deck gunport back edge is flush with the front of the bulkhead.

3. Make sure that the top edge of the gunport pattern lies 1mm above the ply quarterdeck.

Three attempts to get that right, I,ve built up a temporary cannon and checked it against many ports and all looks good, I can't get a picture up at the moment as I seem to have lost it

Greetings robert

Just concentrate on 270, as the others should match up. If you are using the canon as a guide you need deck planking under the wheels. Don't bother about fitting 276 at all for now, I will explain that later. Also don't worry about any bulkheads slightly showing through the gunports. Take your time. DAVID

Looking great.  What is the name of the items you are using to connect the side of the ship with while glues dry and where did you get them.  Struggles to find any online in uk shops

Sorry Marvi, it's been over 20 years since I set eyes on all this stuff, have no idea where i got them from, I do know they're final planking screws so no holes are shown after planking.

Great, thanks for letting us know :) Can't find anything like it on the web in the UK so will have to try and make something up.

I look forward to the rest of your build, something I will look forward to building myself in time to come :)

I seem to be making very slow progress also with fitting the gun port lids, channels and chainplates at the moment. The preparation time in painting all the brass fittings and lids and then assembling is very time consuming but seeing the progress made when completing each stage is very gratifying.
