  1. A great canvas to display your marvelous painting skills. Perhaps a wash may fill the voids left by the pesky masking tape.
  2. Great job Harley. I've just started my Missouri and hope that I can at least come close to your results. The kit will demand patience and a lot of planning. Just a quick question regarding the sequence and positioning of the main deck photo etch stanchions. I just cannot see anything about the proper sequence from bow to stern and vice versa in the supplied manual. JP
  3. Your reference to building in plastic sounds a but condescending. I hope it was was not meant in this way. Scale models in any medium can lead to works of art or end in disaster. After building with wood for many years I've returned to the plastic medium and the skill set required is no less demanding than that required of the wood medium. It is just different.
  4. Looks like those samples are a great testament for the "Rope Rocket".
  5. I just posted my copy of the Longridge book as available as well as the definitive James Lees book if you are interested. Just send a pm. JP
  6. The Masting and Rigging of English Ships of War, 1625-1860 by James Lees The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships by C Nepean Longridge If interested in either or both please books please shoot me a private message for more details. JP
  7. Absolutely gorgeous work. If I had one tenth or your skill I would be a very happy individual.
  8. This is an excellent build log. Very much appreciated since I've been considering this very kit. The kit looks very well done and I'm sure it will turn out superbly in your hands. JP
  9. I have plenty of proper storage for tools but they all end up in a pile during a build session. When I spend more time locating a certain tool as opposed to building I need to clear the pile and do a complete re set.
  10. PM sent concerning The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships by Longridge.
  11. Will be watching this build closely. How are the instructions for this kit? I've also sent along a private message as I'm keen to see the modifications you've made with your Proxxon saw.
  12. All the accolades should be pointed at you for your achievement. While I appreciate builders who have the skills to achieve a look of clean perfection in a build, I admire builds that show character without looking sloppy. In some cases this may be more difficult to achieve than the "clean" look.
  13. While my intent is not to begin a debate over decks and how to finish them, I personally was drawn immediately to the wonderful effect of this deck finish. It looks fantastic in my opinion and the small irregularities in the caulking leads to a more natural look that adds character to the model.
  14. ahhhh nuts!!.... With all these positive remarks it looks like I'll need to add more must have items to my list. Great news for this developer and the hobby as well!!
  15. ... 1.7 mm x .5mm sheaves???.....that is simply astonishing. How in the world is one even able to apply the groove to the perimeter of the sheave?
  16. There are few interesting kits pending for imminent release but this Amati product looks like it should be the flagship of kits. I hope it ends up meeting with every ones expectations once it hits the market. It will be a monster of a box and keep many patrons busy for some length of time. I hope to be one of those patrons.
  17. Just downloaded Inkscape and it looks like a very capable piece of software and you can't beat the price.
  18. I can appreciate the input gathered from such a poll but I'm rather puzzled by it as well. In order to answer the questions accurately I would think that a person would have to have experience with each brand. I can vouch for the kits by Corel as good quality and with decent plans but lacking detailed instructions. Whether or not these are better or worse than other brands, I cannot justify in saying since my experience extends only to a couple other manufacturers.
  19. I'm guessing this is to be on a whole new level of complexity for a kit. Looks promising.
  20. https://www.themodellingnews.com/2019/04/tmn-on-tour-mosonshow-mosonmagyarovar.html For endless eye candy check the link and enjoy. The variety a quality of the displayed work is incredible!
  21. Ahhh,.... brings back some memories for me. Looks like things are progressing nicely with your La Renommee. Will check back often to see your progress. JP
  22. The head rails of a ship have got to be the most complex area to deal with . I keep tackling other aspects of my build but I know I'll need to address them eventually. This I know for a fact.
