The lower mast shrouds, ratlines, futtock shrouds, and the catharpins have been completed, also the main part of the bowsprit has been set onto the hull and rigged plus the gammoning has been done, also the rigging at the bow, for the main stay and the preventer stay.
I am now in the process of making the stays, the mouse being the most awkward part to make,I tried tapering some wooded dowel drilling and threading them onto the rope but found serving over them did not work out well, so I am making them by tying thread around the rope, thick first and tapering with thinner rope, coating with PVA and serving, and then serving again when the whole stay is served, they are much smoother that they look in the photos.

    Hi Ray

I found the most simple effective way to make a mouse was to simply serve upto where you want to locate the mouse and then serve backwards and forwards over 5-10mm (depends on size you want) gradually building the mouse up.

Dab on some dilute PVA every pass to hold it all together. After two or three passes, start favouring the 'thicker' end of the mouse with smaller extra passes and then finish with a couple of full passes and then continue serving down the the stay.

    Hope this all makes sense.

The second planking is completed sanded, filled, and sanded again and lastly finished off with wire wool, I have also lined the gun ports with lids, all the gun ports have been painted. One thing I did do was to add a 1mm strip to the bottom of the keel as to my eyes the distance between the planking and the keel bottom looked to narrow.

Progress has been rather slow as of late due to holidays, and other pastimes, mainly selling two motorcycles, and buying one, plus ratline tying is a chore, the main lower mast shrouds, ratlines, catherpins, futtock staves and shrouds are now done.

The catharpins have now been installed with the futtock staves, also the 3mm dead eyes to the top in the non kit plates the futtock shrouds were tied on and hooked into the plates and the rat lines tied on the the futtock shrouds, now just the main and mizzen lower masts to do.

    Fore Mast Shrouds
The shrouds on the fore masts were made next, and the fore most shroud on either side is served right the way down to the dead eye I believe this was to strengthen it as it was liable to be chaffed by the sail, all the others were severed as shown in the rigging book about two thirds of the way down to the futtock stave, they ended up not all exactly the same length down,to achieve that I would still be doing them at Xmas. The dead eyes were added to the ends of the shrouds and rigged at this point.

HI Mobbsie  The Destroyer is a Deans Marine kit which is 1/96 890mm long it can be built for radio control, but I will build it as a static model, I now have the kit and I am tempted to build it and complete Diana afterwards, The reason I am building HMS Tanatside Is my father served on her when she supported the landings at Omaha Beach.

detailed below is how I am making my served eyes, they may not be purist, as they are not spliced, but they work for me and look in my opinion small and neat.

A length off tightly served rope.

Eye formed around a suitable sized piece of round material

Eye tied as below with back to back half granny knots, I use three to hold the eyes size and shape.

A drop off gel super glue over the whole knot and allow to dry, I do not use as much gel as this normally but this amount shows up better the angled cut in the next step.

Trim off knots and then cut return length at an angle with a scalpel

Lastly I roll the eye joint with my fingerers
    .
    Job done.

I have now completed making the rest of the mast parts, some differ from the plans as I have cross referenced them with AOTS Diana`s drawings, and I am going with the books drawings, for instance the fore mast, the top mast has no eight square section. All the sections were profiled in my umimat lathe, and all square or eight square sections
filed ,some square sections were built up as required.
As showed in the last photos the masts have been dry assembled (so if they look slightly out of line that’s the reason why). The lower masts and tops will be stepped into the hull next after the tops have all the required blocks fitted to them, and the rest of the mast parts held over for now, as I will next make and add the burton pendants and the shrouds to the lower masts before working up the masts.

    Hammock rails and netting

The hammock rails were added, and .5mm thread threaded through the holes, the netting I used on my Pegasus build looked to small and fine, I did have some other netting that I had from the Pegasus build, the problem being it was red, but looked a better size, so I painted it mat black and it came out ok, so I decided to use it. My method for fixing the netting, is to line up the netting to the top edge and sew it to the rail thread as it the photos, then tie the netting into the bottom corners of the cranes, and then trim to to hight of the other crane upright and sew as the first side, and then just trim up and tie in any bits that need it, and final touch up the paint.
The hull is now completed with just a few touch ups required I will take some photos and add them soon.

I am newish to serving but have found doing the foremost shrouds on Diana fairly easy to do, I start with just an overhand knot and a dab of super glue and after a few turns say 5mm in length roll it in my fingers, and finish the same way, if you need to stop hang a clip/clamp on the thread and try to keep the thread being served fairly taught, this might not be textbook but it works for me.
    Good luck
